Role Description The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) is a full-time, on-site role based at Harbourfront Animal Hospital in Toronto, ON. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting veterinarians during examinations and procedures, monitoring anesthesia, performing laboratory tests, and providing high-quality nursing care to hospitalized and surgical patients. The RVT will support client education by explaining treatment plans, home care instructions, and preventive health recommendations in a transparent, empathetic manner.
Additional tasks include handling and restraining animals safely, maintaining accurate medical records,
preparing and cleaning treatment areas, and ensuring equipment is properly maintained. The role involves working closely with the veterinary and client service teams to deliver efficient, compassionate care in a busy clinical setting.
Qualifications
Strong skills in Animal Care and Pet Care, including safe handling, monitoring, and comfort of companion animals.
Competence in Veterinary Technology, such as laboratory procedures, radiology, medical record-keeping, and assisting in diagnostics.
Experience in Anesthesiology, including anesthetic monitoring, pain management support, and post-operative patient care.
Ability in Client Education, with clear communication skills to explain treatments, medications, and preventive care to pet guardians.
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
Knowledge of common veterinary medications, vaccines, and preventive care protocols.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment, with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Comfort with computer-based medical records and willingness to learn clinic-specific software.
Previous small animal practice experience is an asset.
