Responsibility of / Expectations from the Role

- Define and maintain Open IMA system architectures aligned with aircraft and system-level requirements.
- Develop architecture concepts for hosted applications within partitioned computing environments.
- Allocate aircraft functions across IMA modules while ensuring compliance with safety, performance, and certification requirements.
- Applications

- Establish architecture principles supporting reusability, scalability, maintainability, and certification.
- Perform system-level trade studies and architecture evaluations.

- Define and maintain:
- Functional architectures
- Logical architectures
- Physical architectures
- Support safety-driven architecture decisions derived from:
- FHA
- PSSA
- SSA
- Ensure compliance with:
- ARINC 653
- ARINC 664
- DO-297
- ARP4754A

Platform Integration & Configuration

- Lead integration of avionics applications onto Open IMA platforms.
- Configure:
- ARINC 653 partitions
- Scheduling tables
- Health monitoring functions
- Communication channels
- I/O assignments

- Perform resource allocation activities:
- Memory allocation
- Network bandwidth allocation
- Support platform integration testing and troubleshooting.
- Analyze integration risks and develop mitigation strategies.

- Resolve issues associated with:
- Partition timing
- Resource conflicts
- Inter-partition communication
- Network performance
- Platform startup sequences
- Coordinate platform releases and configuration baselines.

Certification & Compliance Activities

- Support certification of Open IMA platforms in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Develop and review certification evidence and compliance artifacts.
- Support certification audits and authority interactions.
- Ensure traceability between:
- Requirements
- Design
- Verification activities

- Support planning and execution of certification reviews.
- Contribute to compliance demonstrations for:
- FAA
- EASA
- Other certification authorities

- Manage system interfaces between hosted applications, platform services, and aircraft systems.
- Ensure platform compliance with applicable avionics standards.

- Lead technical reviews and design assessments.
- Drive resolution of complex integration and certification issues.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
- Establish engineering best practices.
- Support customer and stakeholder reviews.
