Overview

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is hiring multiple positions across the GTA (Durham, York, Scarborough, Toronto, Peel, Halton, Dufferin) for early childhood programs. Positions include Supply, Part-Time Hourly, and Split Shift Salaried roles with varying hours and pay bands. Employment type includes Split Shift Salaried, Part-Time Hourly, and Supply, with 10- and 12-month options available. Anticipated start date is immediately; deadline to apply is ongoing.

Responsibilities

- Provide quality compassionate care and support to children and their families
- Build positive relationships with children and keep families up to date on their child’s progress
- Be a creative play partner who is actively engaged with the children
- Ensure the safety and supervision of children at all times; may involve sole responsibility for a group of children
- Understand and comply with provincial (CCEYA), municipal, and YMCA policies and procedures
- Observe and document children’s learning and development
- Attend to children’s needs, including diapering and toileting assistance
- Collaborate with a team to support an inclusive workplace for children with developmental or behavioural needs
- Clean and sanitize spaces, toys, and equipment; prepare and serve food in line with health and safety protocols
- Report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services as required
- Attend curriculum training and maintain required qualifications and certifications
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications by Role

Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE):

- Early Childhood Educator Diploma
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)

Early Learning Facilitator:





- Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers or a diploma/degree in Child and Youth Care (Ontario) or Recreation and Leisure Services (Ontario)

Early Childhood Assistant:

- High School Diploma

General Qualifications

- Minimum of six months’ experience working with children; experience leading and supervising in structured programs
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C before first day of work
- Up-to-date immunizations as required by Public Health
- Ability to lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs) and assist with mobility or toileting needs
- Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round
- Flexibility with working hours and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- Minimum age 18 years or older per Ministry guidelines; legally entitled to work in Canada

Travel and Schedules

Split Shift positions require commuting to and from work twice daily (e.g., 7:00–9:00 a.m. and 2:00–6:00 p.m.).

Supply roles require availability Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Part-Time Hourly roles typically run Monday–Friday, 2:00–6:00 p.m. 10- or 12-month terms are available. Majority split-shift vacancies are 86% time portion.
