Role Description The Litigation Paralegal will manage a portfolio of litigation files in the Small Claims Court, Landlord Tenant Board, Provincial Offences Court, and other tribunals. Day-to-day tasks include conducting legal research, drafting and formatting pleadings and motions, preparing and reviewing legal documents, and arguing cases in court. The role also involves communicating with courts, clients, and opposing counsel and as directed by supervising attorneys. This is a full-time, on-site role located in the Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area, requiring regular in-office collaboration and availability for court-related scheduling needs. The salary is $65,000 to $75,000, per annum, plus benefits.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in litigation including making submissions in court, examining and cross examining witnesses, Legal Document Preparation and Document Review to support case management and ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Candidates should possess solid Legal Research abilities to locate case law, statutes, and regulations and prepare concise research summaries.
- Candidates should possess experience drafting and managing Pleadings and Motions in litigation settings.
- Relevant post-secondary education in paralegal studies, law, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in litigation support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with robust attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with attorneys and other staff on-site.
- Proficiency with legal practice management tools, electronic discovery platforms, and standard office software (e.g., word processing and spreadsheets).
- Experience in civil or commercial litigation in a law firm or corporate legal department is a requirement.
