Transportation and Infrastructure - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Reporting to the Regional Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for providing continuous professional, technical and administrative supervision on an ongoing basis to engineering staff engaged in project management of building construction/renovation contracts. Assigns work, provides advice and guidance for solution of engineering problems including design, technical, financial and administrative issues.
Responsible for project management of complex multi‑disciplinary building construction projects. Provides direction to consultants, contractors and inspectors with respect to client requirements and limitations; technical and procedural requirements in accordance with the department’s project management and design administration manual; as well as regulatory/legislative requirements. Oversees quality assurance activities during construction; monitors and reports on expenditures with respect to approved budgets as well as design and construction schedules; ensures safety requirements are met and any issues addressed; prepares project briefing notes and client reports as required.
Work involvement includes all project phases from concept design to commissioning. Produces and authorises final and complete design drawings for various in‑house design projects, in accordance with applicable standards, codes, policies and procedures. Performs related work as required.
Screening Criteria
Experience in project management for building construction and renovation projects.
Experience with contract administration
Experience with building construction projects, preferably large, complex construction (new school construction, hospital construction, etc.)
Experience with design‑build projects (asset)
Supervisory experience (asset)
Graduation from an accredited university with a degree in Engineering in a related field.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with a Canadian Professional Engineering Association.
Assessment Criteria
Knowledge of building design and construction issues with particular emphasis on safety standards, construction practices and methodologies

Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license
Current driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Employer
Use of a personal vehicle

Travel throughout the Region may be required
Membership or immediate eligibility for membership as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland (PEGNL)
