This includes influencing underwriting strategy, enhancing governance frameworks, and partnering with MGAs and brokers to deliver sustainable,



profitable growth.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram & Portfolio LeadershipLead underwriting oversight of a portfolio of delegated and non-delegated authority programs, with a strong emphasis on property and property-led programsConduct holistic program reviews, including profitability, rate adequacy, CAT exposure, and long-term sustainabilityDrive portfolio segmentation strategies, identifying growth opportunities within specialized property niches (e.G., emerging industries, complex risk segments)Contribute to the creation, launch, and scaling of new programs, including development of underwriting guidelines and product wordingsTechnical Property Underwriting ExpertiseUnderwrite and guide complex commercial property risks, including large and non-standard exposuresApply deep understanding of property coverage, wordings, CAT modelling, and facultative reinsurance structuresSupport program partners in risk selection, pricing strategy, and coverage structuring to ensure alignment with Liberty’s appetiteProvide technical leadership on large accounts, high-value assets, and specialized property exposuresBroker & MGA Relationship ManagementBuild and manage strong relationships with MGAs, brokers, and capacity partnersAct as a trusted advisor, influencing underwriting practices and program strategiesCollaborate on market expansion opportunities, including new distribution channels and niche sectorsEnsure consistent service delivery and alignment of underwriting standards across delegated authoritiesGovernance, Audit & Performance ManagementLead the review and governance of MGA and delegated underwriting authority agreements, ensuring compliance and alignment with risk appetiteOversee and enhance program audit protocols, including underwriting quality, claims trends, and financial performanceMonitor portfolio performance using data-driven insights, actuarial inputs, and claims analysisIdentify emerging trends and proactively implement corrective actions and underwriting adjustmentsStrategy, Innovation & GrowthContribute to the national Programs strategy, with a focus on property-led growth segmentsIdentify opportunities to expand into specialized industries (e.G., cannabis, manufacturing, niche property sectors)Champion innovation in program design, underwriting processes, and market positioningSupport development of standardized frameworks, playbooks, and scalable underwriting modelsCross-Functional CollaborationPartner closely with Actuarial,



Risk Services, Claims, Reinsurance, and Legal to drive profitabilityTranslate technical insights into actionable strategies for program partners and internal stakeholdersSupport internal knowledge sharing and elevate technical underwriting capability across the Programs teamApplicable experience in casualty and/or financial lines, given that property-centric programs may include some of these elementsSkills & Qualifications7+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a solid emphasis on property underwriting and programs/portfolio managementBuilding or managing insurance programs or niche segmentsUnderwriting complex property risks and large accountsWorking with MGAs and delegated authority models (a preference)Strong understanding of property wordings, CAT exposures, and reinsurance structuresPortfolio analytics, profitability metrics, and program performance trackingDrive profitable growth within specialized segmentsBalance technical underwriting discipline with commercial strategyInfluence stakeholders across brokers, MGAs, and internal teamsWhat Success Looks LikeSuccessful scaling and optimization of property-focused programsStrong profitability and portfolio performance across assigned programsEnhanced governance, audit rigor, and underwriting consistencyDevelopment of innovative, market-leading program solutionsLiberty Mutual Canada is committed to pay transparency and fair, equitable hiring. For roles based in Ontario and British Columbia we publish a Target Hiring Range in compliance with the Ontario Pay Transparency Act and the BC Pay Transparency Act.Target Hiring Range: CAD $140,000 – 190,0000This range represents the expected annual base salary for this role, however, offers above the published maximum may be approved with appropriate business authorization. Final offers will be determined based on each candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and the needs of the role.
