Role Overview The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing, coordinating and reviewing detailed and conceptual estimates across all division of work. This role identifies risks, evaluates revenue opportunities, and ensures accurate costing to support competitive and successful submissions.

The Senior

Estimator may supervise intermediate and junior estimators and play a crucial role in maintaining relationships with subcontractors and industry partners. This role is primarily based in our Scarborough head office to support collaboration and mentorship within the estimating team. Eastern offers a flexible work environment, with arrangements considered based on project demands and team needs/priorities.

Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed estimates and quantity take-offs across 16 divisions. Develop solid conceptual estimating approaches based on drawings, specifications, and incomplete design packages. Analyze project risks, scope gaps, and pricing irregularities and upscale appropriately.

Review subcontractor quotations for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with project requirements. Contribute to the bid closing process and ensure timely, accurate submissions. Review drawings, specifications,



and addenda to proactively identify risks, scope gaps, and pricing inconsistencies.

Analyze schedule impacts, constructability issues, and potential procurement challenges early in the bid process. Identify lapses, assumptions, and areas requiring clarification, and upscale concerns promptly to the Chief Estimator. Assess subcontractor quotations for completeness, exclusions, and misalignments with project requirements.

Recommend mitigation strategies or alternative approaches to reduce risk and optimize the bid. Planning &

- Coordination Establishing estimating priorities and schedule estimating milestones. Coordinate with internal teams, including Project Managers, the Chief Estimator, and Pre-Construction personnel to identify cost-saving opportunities or alternate solutions.

Maintain

Organized documentation, historical cost data, and estimate records. Budgeting &

- Cost Analysis Prepare preliminary budgets and provide ongoing costing during design development. Identify potential cost efficiencies for clients and internal teams. Support value engineering exercises by proposing alternatives aligned with project goals. Subtrade bid analysis and price leveling. Leadership &
- Relationship Management:

Leadership Mentor, guide, and supervise junior and intermediate estimators. Delegate tasks appropriately and support team development through coaching and feedback. Promote best practices in estimating and pre-construction processes.

Relationship Building

Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.



Maintain a network of trusted industry partners to support accurate pricing and project execution. Respond promptly and constructively to subcontractor inquiries.

Communication

Present cost findings, assumptions, and recommendations clearly to internal and external stakeholders. Prepare concise written communication and participate in meetings to support bid strategy and execution. Listen actively, gather facts before concluding, and address issues with professionalism and clarity.

Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written are crucial. Must be confident leading group discussions and presentations, communicating effectively by phone and in person, and demonstrating strong written communication. Job Knowledge &

- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices. Proficiency in reading, and interpreting contracts, drawings, and specifications, including addenda. Advances skills in Microsoft Excel, On-Screen Takeoff, and estimating or bid management software (Viewpoint or similar is an asset) Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications &

Experience 8+ years of industry experience in estimating University degree or college diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or Construction Management. Demonstrated ability to estimate projects from start to finish with minimal guidance.
