Shift Work Required: Yes - On Call Rotation

Rate of Pay: $45.08 per hour

Main Function

Reporting to a Supervisor of Wastewater Treatment or a Supervisor of Water Treatment, this position is responsible to maintain and operate water/wastewater facilities and conduct minor routine maintenance and running repair work on fleet vehicles within the Division.

Duties

- Conduct scheduled, corrective and emergency maintenance on City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) facility equipment with an emphasis on maintenance of engine driven equipment and related auxiliary systems (e.g., mobile generators, mobile pumps, trailers, loaders, UTV, etc.).
- Conduct minor routine maintenance (e.g., charge or boost vehicles, replace windshield wipers, inspect, and replace lighting, etc.) and running repair work (e.g. belts, tires, small repairs, etc.) on fleet vehicles within the Division, as directed.
- Order and pick up parts for maintenance work.
- Utilize condition-based maintenance techniques to detect the onset of equipment malfunctions and take appropriate preventative actions.
- Utilize CMMS to initiate, document and track all maintenance activities.
- Make use of mechanical tools, equipment, and techniques to ensure facility equipment functionality.
- Assist with facility operations and act as Operator in Charge as directed.
- Conduct operational checks, make operational process adjustments, take samples, perform tests, maintain records and evaluate water or wastewater related processes.




- Monitor and document facility equipment performance data and advise supervisor of any problems to initiate corrective action.
- Assist in training of facility employees, as directed.
- Will be required to work on a seven (7) day / twenty-four (24) hour shift schedule, and/or standby schedule, if directed.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training

- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Must hold a Certificate of Qualification through Skilled Trades Ontario as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A).
- Must hold a Certificate of Qualification through Skilled Trades Ontario as an Automotive Service Technician (310S).
- Certificate of Qualification through Skilled Trades Ontario as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A) considered an asset.
- Must obtain Operator-In-Training (OIT) Certification in Water Treatment OR Wastewater Treatment through the Ontario Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Office (OWWCO) within six (6) months from date of hire. Once obtained, certification must be maintained and held in good standing.
- Must obtain Level I Water Treatment OR Wastewater Treatment through the Ontario Water and Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) within five (5) years from date of hire. Once obtained, certification must be maintained and held in good standing.





Experience

- Minimum three (3) years of directly related experience working on diesel generators ranging in size from at least 100 Kw.
- Must have practical experience with automotive vehicle repairs and be capable of carrying out repairs with minimal supervision.
- Operating experience in jurisdiction considered an asset.

Other Requirements

- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
- Able to read mechanical drawings.
- Possess a tool kit suitable to perform the duties, valued at not less than $300.00.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., Ministry of Setting).
- WHMIS, First Aid and CPR considered an asset.
- Demonstrate understanding of Water/Wastewater processes, systems, and equipment considered an asset.
- Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying 22.68 kg.
- Ability to perform confined space duties (including entry) mandatory.
- Ability to use related software programs (such as CMMS, MS Office, SCADA).
- Excellent use of English; both verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
- Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class G driver's licence, and have an acceptable driving record.
