Role Description The Litigation Legal Assistant is a full-time, on-site role located in Barrie, ON. This position supports lawyers in civil litigation matters by preparing and formatting legal documents, managing correspondence, and organizing case files. Day-to-day tasks include maintaining calendars and scheduling court appearances, meetings, and deadlines, as well as coordinating service and filing of documents with courts and tribunals. The role also involves managing incoming calls and emails, updating internal systems, assisting with preparation for hearings, discoveries, and trials, and ensuring accurate file organization and document management.
The Litigation Legal Assistant works closely with the legal team to support efficient file handling and effective client service.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in civil Law and Legal Assistance, with experience supporting litigation matters.
Proficiency in Legal Document Preparation, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading pleadings, motion materials, and correspondence.
Demonstrated Administrative Assistance skills, including file management, data entry, and handling client communications.
Effective Calendaring abilities to manage deadlines, court dates, and scheduling for multiple files and lawyers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with solid attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize tasks, work under time constraints, and manage competing deadlines in a litigation setting.
Proficiency with legal practice management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PDF tools).
Relevant legal assistant or law clerk diploma, or equivalent education and experience in a litigation setting.
Professionalism, discretion, and commitment to client service and teamwork in a law firm setting.
