Role Description
The primary focus is Traffic Signal and/or Roadway Lighting design for transportation facilities. The successful candidate will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary and detailed traffic/intersection design drawings, estimates, specifications, and proposals. They will also assist in preparing reports on the nature, status, and results of design or study assignments.
Role Accountabilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the design, production, coordination, and management of Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal projects. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with Utility and Roadway agencies to develop traffic signal/intersection and roadway illumination designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation, including layout, equipment details, and photometrics.
- Assisting in developing deliverables such as wiring diagrams, power calculations, and Electrical Engineering designs compliant with ESA codes or relevant standards.
- Performing utility coordination duties related to roadway illumination and traffic signal projects, including preparation of technical reports, tender documentation, and field support (commissioning, signal turn‑on, site inspection).
- Verifying or validating that engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with regulations, standards, corporate procedures, and sound engineering practices; reviewing drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs.
- Ensuring that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality, including preparation of final reports.
Qualifications & Experience
- Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic/Civil Engineering.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in intersection/traffic signal design,
ideally in a design-consulting or utility workplace.
- Must have or be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Proficient with AGI 32.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 15, 5, & 7), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), RP‑8 (latest version), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada.
- Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities.
- Experience with pole loading software such as SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset.
- Experience performing site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration.
- MTO Major Electrical RAQS qualification is an asset.
- Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team delivering complex projects of large size and scope.
- Experience working on MTO Roadway Lighting projects.
Salary
The salary range for this position is $71,000 - $106,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
