The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour.

Job Summary
We are currently hiring for a Relief Part Time Registered Nurse, Pediatric Emergency to join our Pediatric Emergency Unit team at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, B.C. This position is available until approximately September 2027 or until the return of the incumbent.

Detailed Overview
The Registered Nurse, Pediatrics provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care to pediatric patients in a pediatric emergency unit and/or pediatric emergency observation unit.

Responsibilities

Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment of the pediatric patient on admission and at regular intervals, using observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment.

Make a nursing diagnosis and determine whether the condition can be improved or resolved by an appropriate nursing intervention, and identify risk factors.

Plan, perform, and evaluate nursing interventions and care.

Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and the inter‑professional care team in developing and modifying the care plan.

Participate in care and discharge planning, ensuring effective implementation and updates to the care plan.

Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks, and make referrals according to protocols and practice standards.

Provide rapid pediatric assessments in collaboration with Emergency Department staff to facilitate transfer, treatment, and discharge.

Teach patients and families health‑promoting behaviors and self‑care strategies.





Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families and initiate referrals to appropriate agencies.

Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes to Fraser Health procedures.

Participate in in‑services, educational programs, and professional development to maintain clinical competence.

Act as a preceptor or mentor for new nursing staff and students.

Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities, collecting data and recommending corrective action.

Participate in research and special projects in collaboration with the inter‑professional team.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing; current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM; at least two years of recent, related clinical nursing experience in the designated area; completion of post‑graduate coursework or certification applicable to the area or an equivalent combination.

Skills and Abilities

Clinical proficiency in pediatrics.

Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and apply pediatric nursing theory.

Recognize acuity changes and use evidence‑based practice.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the inter‑professional team.

Promote person‑centered care and patient advocacy, demonstrating empathy.

Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve.

Initiate and maintain intravenous therapy.

Plan, organize, and prioritize work in a changing environment.

Work independently and collaborate within a team.

Teach and instruct patients, families, and community partners.

Adapt to change and manage change initiatives.

Operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.

Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
