: Senior Technical Report Writer (Environmental Services)

Position Overview
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Report Writer with 7+ years of professional experience developing high-quality technical documentation for environmental projects. The successful candidate will produce clear, accurate, and well-structured reports that support environmental compliance, permitting, environmental assessment, site remediation, and project delivery.
This role requires exceptional technical writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of environmental regulations and consulting practices, and the ability to translate complex scientific and engineering information into documents tailored to regulatory agencies, clients, and both internal and external stakeholders.
The position is available as onsite, hybrid, or remote within Alberta.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, write, edit, and format high-quality technical reports, proposals, plans, and supporting documentation for environmental projects.
- Develop reports related to environmental compliance, regulatory permitting, environmental site assessments, remediation, reclamation, monitoring, and project delivery.
- Translate complex technical, scientific, and environmental data into clear, concise, and audience-appropriate documentation.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, project managers, and technical specialists to gather, interpret, and organize technical information.
- Ensure documents meet regulatory requirements, client specifications, corporate quality standards, and industry best practices.
- Review and edit technical content for accuracy, consistency, readability, grammar, and formatting.
- Coordinate report production,
including graphics, tables, maps, appendices, references, and document version control.
- Maintain consistency in writing style, templates, and document standards across projects.
- Support proposal development, project documentation, and technical communications as required.
- Manage multiple writing assignments while meeting competing deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure document excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Biology, Technical Communication, English, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience writing and editing technical reports within the environmental consulting, engineering, or natural resources sectors.
- Demonstrated experience supporting environmental compliance, permitting, environmental assessments, remediation, reclamation, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations, reporting requirements, and regulatory submission processes.
- Exceptional written communication, technical editing, proofreading, and document organization skills.
- Ability to interpret scientific and technical information and communicate it effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, including document formatting, templates, styles, tables of contents, cross-references,
and document automation.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with environmental consulting firms or engineering organizations.
- Familiarity with Alberta environmental legislation, permitting, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience preparing documentation for provincial and federal regulatory agencies.
- Knowledge of GIS mapping outputs, technical figures, and environmental data presentation.
- Experience with document management systems and collaborative document review processes.
- Professional designation or eligibility with a relevant professional association is considered an asset.
