The role will also involve supporting secondary transaction processes, including fundamental valuation and financial modeling of private equity fund positions. The Analyst’s activities include screening, performing due diligence, and supporting the execution of new fund investments and select co-investments, ongoing monitoring of existing investments, participating in various projects, and staying abreast of trends in the private equity market.WHO YOU WILL WORK WITHThe Private Equity department manages a diverse global portfolio of approximately $36 billion in global private equity investments comprising of fund, direct and co-investments. Portfolio growth over the coming years will be driven by an increased emphasis on direct investment, strong partner relationships and actively creating value from the portfolio to deliver superior returns for our clients.Our department currently consists of ~65 professionals spanning offices located in Victoria, London and New York City, organized into six sub-teams: Direct Investments, Fund Investments, Venture & Growth, Portfolio Performance, Reporting & Analytics, and Operations. Our Direct Investments team can be further broken down into six sector-focused teams that cover the Financial and Business Services, Consumer, Healthcare, Industrials, Technology, Media & Communications and Capital Solutions.WHAT YOU BRINGUndergraduate degree with high academic standingPrevious internship and / or 1-2 years of full time experience in accounting, equity research, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or corporate M&AStrong; financial modeling, analytical,
valuation and research skillsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalAttention to detailAbility to manage projects under pressure to meet tight deadlinesStrong business acumen and judgmentAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a high-performance cultureProficiency with business software and analytical tools such as Capital IQ and BloombergStrong interest in private equity fund investingWillingness to travelAuthorization to work in CanadaWorking towards a CFA is considered an assetWHAT YOU WILL DOInvestment Analysis and ExecutionSupports the analysis of private equity fund and co-investment opportunities, meets with private equity fund managers, and develops fund and co-investment screening toolsDevelops investment thesis for potential fund and co-investment opportunities, including portfolio fit, investment merits, risks, and mitigantsSupports secondary processes with fundamental valuation analysis and modeling of private equity fund positionsTakes a structured approach with appropriate level of analysis in various workstreams of due diligenceTakes a proactive role in reviewing and challenging financial projectionsCoordinates and completes some due diligence sections with minimal guidance and advanced sections with guidanceSynthesizes findings, key analysis and supporting documents in an organized and documented mannerWrites effective screening, deal alert and investment memorandums, and assists in coordinating the internal review/approval processEffectively presents diligence findings during group discussions of investment opportunities and recommendationsPrepares analysis in support of executing exits, including buy-hold-sell analysisPrepares IC materials related to exit recommendationsPortfolio Monitoring, Value Creation and OversightMonitors assigned investments, identifying any existing or potential risk factors related to performance or other issues, including: tracking/evaluating performance metrics, ongoing review against original investment thesis, ongoing strategic fit, and significant changes impacting the investment.Supports the development of tracking tools and processes to ensure sustained long-term returnsSystematically develops objective and rigorous views on the long-term fit of specific fund relationships and co-investment activities to ensure ongoing strategic fit with the developing objectives of the overall private equity programProjects/Ongoing KnowledgeKeeps up-to-date on industry and private equity trendsWorks on specific projects to enhance team capabilitiesDevelops key strategic relationships with fund managers, other limited partners, internal resources, etc.WHERE YOU WILL WORKThis role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BCSALARY RANGEThe annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $112,000 - $122,000.BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance.
