About the roleWe are looking for a creative, energetic, and self‑motivated Experimental Physicist to join our Processor Development (PD) team. The PD team is composed of experienced and talented superconducting circuit designers, fabrication engineers, software developers and physicists who work together to create the processors at the heart of our quantum computer and are constantly pushing the boundaries of the technology of the future.We are growing!In this challenging and exciting position, you will work with a multi‑disciplinary team and regularly communicate and collaborate with other processor development scientists, device designers, engineers, cryogenic experts and application developers.Areas of WorkCharacterizing and calibrating our superconducting quantum processorsModeling, assessing and improving real‑world performance of our quantum processorsCharacterizing, understanding and reducing noise in superconducting circuitsParametric design of novel devices and/or device enhancements to improve processor performance or enable new capabilitiesAssessing and understanding the impact of the processor’s environment, including packaging, IO, electronics and cryogenic elements, and developing models and approaches to improve itWhat you'll doDevelop and execute experimental procedures to quantify, understand,



and operate a wide range of superconducting devicesCome up with new ideas to improve processor operation or performance and develop parametric designs to implement themDevelop theoretical models and simulations to represent and understand experimental results on physical devicesDevelop analysis routines to fit theoretical models to data and to detect outlier behavior in large complex systems of superconducting devicesRegularly and clearly document experimental results for the broader processor development teamCreate and contribute to LISP software infrastructure for modeling, calibrating and operating processorsCommunicate and collaborate with other internal teams at D‑Wave including marketing, intellectual property, applications development and engineeringRequiredPh.D. or M.Sc. in physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experimental research experienceStrong critical thinking and technical problem‑solving skillsSkill in independent research and evidence of deep understanding in your area of expertiseAn ability to come up to speed in new technical topics quickly and effectivelyStrong software development experience related to experimental design and automation, data acquisition, and data analysis; and a willingnessto learn new programming languages and software concepts as neededA collaborative mindset and a demonstrated ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team,
