We're looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Directors.
Soul of Miistaki is a grassroots not-for-profit in Alberta connecting people of all backgrounds to the traditional lands of Treaty 7 Indigenous peoples through inclusive outdoor experiences and cultural integration. We're growing, and we need a finance-minded volunteer to help us steward that growth responsibly.
About the role:
As Treasurer, you'll provide financial oversight and governance leadership for our board, helping us budget wisely, stay compliant, and plan for a sustainable future. This is a volunteer, two-year board term.
Responsibilities
Guide the annual operating budget and financial planning process alongside our Executive Director and bookkeeper
Review and present financial statements to the board
Oversee compliance with CRA reporting requirements and other statutory filings
Coordinate year-end financial review with staff and our external accountant
Monitor cash flow, financial risk, and overall financial stability
Help build financial understanding among board members so they can engage confidently in financial discussions
Skills & Qualification
Experience in finance, accounting, business, or nonprofit financial management
Comfort reviewing budgets, financial statements, and forecasts
Sound judgment, integrity, and a commitment to acting in the best interest of the organization
Ability to explain financial concepts clearly to a non-finance board
A genuine interest in our mission and community
The following experience would be considered an asset:
Experience working with grant-funded organizations
Familiarity with Canadian nonprofit financial practices
Time commitment:
3-4 board meetings a year (in person or online) plus about 4-8 hours a month reviewing statements and supporting planning.
Term
This is a three-year volunteer term, with the chance for renewal.
