About Brickeye
Brickeye leverages the power of data from construction to drive risk mitigation and productivity gains. We are a quick-growing construction technology company developing the world’s most advanced IoT-based risk mitigation platform for water damage mitigation, concrete quality / defect control, and real-time site intelligence. We protect construction projects from avoidable loss, reduce the total cost of risk, and help asset owners, general contractors, and insurers deliver projects on time and on budget.
The Challenge
At Brickeye, we’re building IoT-enabled technology that turns construction sites into smart, predictive environments. Our physical products are the foundation of this intelligence. We need devices that survive extreme conditions:
Operating flawlessly in -30°C to +60°C weather.
Maintaining power efficiency for multi-year battery life in the field.
Integrating diverse sensors (water, temp, pressure, flow) into a robust, deployable system.
We’re seeking a Hardware Product Engineer whose deepest strength is mechanical product design, built on a true mechatronics foundation. Your center of gravity is mechanical enclosures, materials, molding, manufacturability and you’re genuinely comfortable reviewing a PCB layout, weighing in on antenna placement, and reading firmware logs to debug a field issue.
Core Responsibilities
Own products end-to-end mechanical design, electrical integration, prototyping, validation, and the transition to volume manufacturing
Think holistically about the product lifecycle and the trade-offs between battery life, RF performance, size, environmental sealing, and BOM cost
Autonomy to drive technical decisions
Move quickly from schematic and CAD file to a working proof-of-concept
Translate field and user feedback into practical design improvements for ruggedness, usability, and longevity
Engineer enclosures to meet IP/NEMA environmental ratings (moisture, dust, vibration, and temperature resistance)
Bring industrial design sensibility to product development—form, proportions, ergonomics,
and install/service experience—so devices look and feel like polished products, not just enclosures.
Design with DFM/DFA in mind so products are cost-effective and scalable from the first production run
What You Bring
4+ years of end-to-end hardware product development experience (design through production)
Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Design Engineering (or equivalent multidisciplinary background)
Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) and mechanical drawing standards
Working knowledge of PCB design and PCBA integration—able to collaborate on layout decisions, component placement, and antenna integration
Experience with FEA, DFM, and tolerance analysis
Strong understanding of environmental sealing, materials selection, and manufacturability
Demonstrated mechanical design depth, including designing plastic parts for injection molding (draft, parting lines, wall thickness, tolerances) and collaborating effectively with toolmakers and mold vendors
Hands-on prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC coordination) and comfort with electrical and mechanical test equipment
Programming ability in Python or C/C++ for test automation, data analysis, or firmware-adjacent work
Hands-on development experience with Raspberry Pi (or similar embedded Linux single-board computers) for prototyping, sensor integration, and test/utility applications
AI-First Mindset
