Journeyman Electricians (4 Openings) – New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
Contract or Full-Time Permanent | Travel Within Nova Scotia
We're hiring 4 Journeyman Electricians for a 10-week commercial store fit-out project in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. This is a Monday to Friday schedule, 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, averaging 40 to 45 hours per week.

This isn't a one-and-done project. We have more work lined up across Nova Scotia, so electricians who are able to travel within the province are strongly preferred. For the right people, this can turn into long-term work on either a contract or full-time permanent basis.

Role:
Responsible for laying out, assembling, installing, testing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, and control devices in a commercial retail environment.

Responsibilities:

Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations

Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits; pull wires through conduits and through holes in walls and floors; install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment; install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels

Assemble, install, test and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools

Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with code





Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem

Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signalling devices and heating and cooling systems; connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components

Work in a safe manner, maintaining a secure and organized work area by observing all safety policies and procedures and applying safety training

Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve common project and site objectives, always exhibiting a positive and professional attitude

Responsible for materials, tools, and appropriate paperwork

Qualifications:

Certified Journeyman Electrician in Nova Scotia (Construction Electrician Certificate of Qualification; Red Seal endorsement an asset) with own tools and personal safety equipment

Experience with commercial or retail electrical installations preferred

Possess and provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver's licence and produce a clean driver's abstract upon hire

Access to a personal vehicle for independent travel to and from job sites

Willing and able to travel to project sites across Nova Scotia

Willing and able to work at heights

Valid Health & Safety, Working at Heights, and Elevated Work Platform training

Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and organize work

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with clients and site teams
