Interim Director of Accounting

Location: Toronto or Etobicoke, ON

Work Model: Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week.

Term: 12 -18 month contract

Position Overview

Our client, a technology organization, is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Accounting to join its finance leadership team for a Long-term (12-18 month) contract engagement. This role will lead core transaction accounting and reporting activities across a multi-entity, multi-revenue-stream environment.

The successful candidate will oversee key functional areas including payables, receivables, cash application, treasury-related activities, tax coordination, and consolidated reporting support. This position is ideal for a hands-on finance leader with strong IFRS knowledge, operational accounting leadership experience, and a process improvement mindset.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, cash application, treasury support, tax, and reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities to ensure timely, and accurate, monthly financial results.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including reconciliations, reporting packages, and consolidated financial statement
- Manage consolidated reporting requirements for the Canadian business and align with broader group reporting expectations
- Apply strong IFRS knowledge to technical accounting matters, including complex revenue considerations across multiple business lines
- Lead, coach, and support a team of both direct and indirect reports
- Support accounting analysis related to debt, treasury matters, fair value considerations, and other non-routine transactions
- Coordinate audit deliverables and serve as a key contact for external auditors and tax advisors
- Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and overall accounting discipline across the transaction team.
- Partner with senior finance leadership and cross-functional teams on operational priorities and special projects

Qualifications

- CPA designation required




- Deep knowledge of IFRS, with the ability to interpret and apply guidance in a complex operating setting
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership across multiple accounting functions
- Prior experience overseeing AP, AR, collections, reporting, tax, and treasury
- Experience in a Director, Controller, or comparable finance leadership role
- Strong background in monthly close, financial reporting, and audit support
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP Business One, Workday, or Sage Intacct
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, evolving organization
- Big 4 experience or training is considered an asset
