Job Summary

Assisting the Head Skating Instructor with all aspects of preparation, organization, and delivery of the Learn to Skate program for children ages 3‑10. Contributing to a positive and secure environment for all participants and peers.

Hours of Work

Evening shifts run from 4 PM to 9 PM; weekends all day.

Locations

Angus Glen C.C, Crosby C.C, Milliken Mills C.C, Thornhill C.C, Cornell C.C, & Centennial C.C

Qualifications

- Two years of experience, including working with children and adults in an instructional sports setting and experience in a recognized ice sport such as Hockey, Figure Skating, or Ringette.
- Minimum age of 16 years at the start of employment.
- Current certifications in Standard First Aid or Intermediate First Aid with CPR C or AED.




- High Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development (children ages 6 to 12 years).
- Level 1 NCCP Theory.
- City of Markham Learn to Skate Training.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, customer service skills, and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Ability to teach basic level skating and/or hockey to children and youth.
- Demonstrated ability to skate at the level required for instruction.
- Successful candidates will be required to submit a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening letter as determined by the City of Markham as a condition of employment.
