HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

Job description

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting and administering a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, payroll administration, training and development, health and safety, and HR compliance. This role ensures the effective management of employee records, policies, procedures, and HR documentation while providing guidance to managers and employees on performance, workplace issues, and employment-related matters.

The position plays a key role in attracting and retaining talent, coordinating employee lifecycle activities, maintaining payroll accuracy, overseeing training programs, and supporting workplace health and safety initiatives. The Human Resources Generalist fosters a positive, compliant, and productive work environment while ensuring adherence to applicable employment standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and company policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Executive Vice President, the duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Generalist include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. HR Compliance

- Verify, process and maintain all documentation relating to HR activities such as Employee relations, Disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and payroll requests.
- As required, create, modify, edit, and proofread policies, procedures, employment agreements, job descriptions and other HR-related documents.




- Mitigate and escalate employee relation issues while adhering to Canadian Employment Standards and company policies.
- Provide guidance, advice, and counsel on performance and HR matters to supervisors and employees. Escalate issues of greater concern to leadership or where appropriate, outside counsel.
- Conduct workplace investigations, document, and facilitate corrective outcomes, where necessary.
- Maintain and ensure the security of files and records for staff resources of the company.
- Other tasks as may be necessary to support business and people related needs.

2. Recruitment

- In collaboration with hiring managers, lead and execute recruitment activities, including job skill assessment, job evaluation, job descriptions, job postings, the selection framework, the processing and screening of applicants, the preparation of interview templates and participation in interviews, reference checking and structuring/negotiating employment contracts.
- Utilize social media platforms to garner interest from clients and candidates.
- Build networks and relationships with local colleges and universities.

3. Orientation, onboarding and offboarding

- Welcomes new team members from all branches, present Chemsyn’s corporate strategy, provide uniforms (when applicable), and assign mandatory training as per province regulations.
- Enroll current team members in payroll, benefit program, and assign licenses as per their roles.
- In assistance with the Hiring Team and the National Trainer, coordinate on-the-job training, create onboarding agendas and follow-up up to provide certification when training is completed (if applicable)
- Conducts exit interviews, identify key issues, and trends and make recommendations as appropriate.

4. Payroll

- Receive and keep custody of payroll updates for each period




- Create payroll request ensuring calculations are correct and as per the employment standards of each province
- Maintain and update employee information, attendance records, reconcile timesheets, and leave requests.

5. Training

- In coordination with the National Trainer, manage the Learning Management System (LMS), creating, assigning, and designing trainings as per the company’s need
- Schedule mandatory trainings and refreshers as required
- Issue and keep records of certifications and licenses, when applicable

6. Health and Safety

- Oversight of the organization's Occupational Health and Safety program.
- Coordinate Safety Meetings and provides support in developing health and safety programs
- Participate in building inspections to identify possible hazards
- Engage Chemsyn’s community in safe work practices
- Administration and tracking of workplace incident reporting and return-to-work documentation.

Minimum Requirements

- Degree or graduate in HR Professional programs.
- 4+ years of progressive HR Experience.
- MS Office tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal relation skills; ability to establish credibility with stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; understand, speak, read, and write in English language. French would be an asset.
- Strong team player with a positive friendly demeanor who likes to take initiative and build strong professional relationships.
- Experience in recruitment

Job Type: 6 month contract with possibility of extension

Salary: $55,000 to $60,000
