We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician and Scribe to join our team.

Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe join our team. The Ophthalmic Scribe will work directly with ophthalmologists to accurately and efficiently document patient encounters in real-time. As a scribe, the individual ensures accurate and timely charting of clinical assessments and treatment plans directly into the electronic medical record. The Scribe will be managing incoming and outgoing calls and emails pursuant to their role. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, adaptable individual who thrives in a rapid-paced, patient-focused environment.

Responsibilities

- Accurately document patient histories, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions during patient visits.
- Assist in chart preparation and review prior to patient encounters
- Enter test results, diagnostic imaging, and treatment information into the electronic medical record.
- Support compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.
- Operating common business equipment including but not limited to copiers, computers, and fax machines;
- Maintaining organization in a fast-paced environment.
- Consenting patients for medical procedures
- Accurately performing patient screening/testing: History, Visual Acuity, Pupil Assessment, Color Vision,



Instilling drops, etc.
- Accurately performing diagnostic testing: HVF, FDT, OCT, Anterior OCT, IOL Corneal Topography, etc.
- Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
- Communicating with patients regarding follow-up care, pre and post-operative care, testing, possible symptoms, changes in appointment times etc;
- Returning phone calls to patients and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner;
- Support clinic flow by assisting with other administrative or clerical duties as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Completion of your AAO/COA is considered an asset
- Previous experience as a medical scribe, preferably in ophthalmology, is an asset (training provided if needed).
- Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, and procedures is strongly preferred.
- 3 years of current experience working within ophthalmology or optometry
- Typing speed of 40wpm or better;
- Experience with an Electronic Health Record;
- Experience using Accuro EMR;
- Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients’ conditions;
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality;
- Ability to produce high quality accurate work;
- Comprehensive knowledge of health care, organizational/office practices, procedures, and standards
- Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an inter-professional team and independently with little direction;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle multiple duties;
