As a Health Record Technician you will provide support for the assigned team in their daily activities to ensure that patients receive prompt, effective customer service.

The Health Record Technician completes work in support of legislative compliance related to health information management (access and corrections) and privacy..

What will you do?

- Monitor and promptly respond to requests for data correction, chart audit or high-level CHRIS maintenance activities submitted electronically by staff via CHRIS tasks.
- Coordinate the disclosure of patient information in response to requests for information under PHIPA, subrogation requests from the Ministry of Health, requests from internal stakeholders conducting client care evaluations, etc.
- Ensure paper-based records are stored and retained per internal policies and procedures.
- Scan paper-based personal health records to electronic format.
- Adhere to all responsibilities as per personnel policies of the organization.
- Respond to records management-related inquiries from staff.
- Identify internal learning needs required to maintain quality patient records and assists with educating staff when required.
- Assist in the review and revision of policies and procedures related to health information management.
- Review patient consent directives.
- Maintain the RightFax phone book entries.
- Participate in relevant internal committee meetings.
- Assist in planning for and carrying out special projects.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain relevant skills and knowledge.
- Report identified challenges related to health records to the Manager.
- Communicate with Manager and seeks guidance re performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

What must you have?

- Post-secondary diploma in Health Information Management, Health Record Technology, health Record Clerk, Office Administration - Health Services or similar.
- Certification through Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) is considered an asset. Accuracy and speed in data entry and word processing.
- Ability to manage the physical maintenance of records, including moving boxes, organizing files, and remaining seated or standing for extended periods.
- 2-3 years of health information management experience working in a health care setting
- Significant experience with computers in a Windows environment (e.g. Microsoft Office and database programs).
- Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act with emphasis on sections related to access to information.
- Knowledge of the Archives and Recordkeeping Act with emphasis on record retention requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of best practices related to health information management.
- Demonstrates a commitment to personal and patient safety
- Ability to interact with staff, patients, and third-party requestors (i.e. lawyers, substitute decision-makers, insurance companies, social service agencies, Ministry of Health Subrogation Branch representatives)



with patience, tact, courtesy and empathy.
- Ability to discuss sensitive and confidential information with staff, patients or external partners in a discreet and professional manner.
- Ability to set priorities, work independently and accurately, and meet deadlines.
- Bilingual in French an asset.
- Excellent attendance is essentia
