They value collaboration, innovation, achievement, and connection.We are pleased to be partnering with MetOcean in the recruitment of an Accounting Technician to join their organization in their Dartmouth, NS office.Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Technician will support the accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the timely preparation of internal financial statements. This role plays a key part in month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, reporting activities, and ongoing financial operations, helping provide management with reliable information for effective decision-making.Responsibilities include:Prepare and review general ledger account entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedulesSupport month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reportingPrepare monthly financial statements and related management reports, including consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsCompile monthly working paper filesAssist with external reviews by providing requested documentation and supporting explanationsProvide backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functionsPrepare operating expense analyses and provide insight to managementSupport and maintain adherence to third-party reporting requirementsIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness within routine accounting processesPerform ad hoc analysis and reporting, including the enhancement of existing reportsOther duties, as assignedThe ideal candidate will have:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce, Accounting, or a related disciplineMinimum 2 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including financial reporting and month-end close responsibilitiesStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Office 365 suite of applicationsExperience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or other ERP systems considered an assetExperience with Microsoft Power BI considered an assetCPA student or newly designated CPA considered an assetStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate and implement effective solutionsExcellent organization and time management skillsStrong attention to detail and ability to adapt in a dynamic environmentAbility to interpret and integrate information from multiple sources of varying complexityStrong written and verbal communication skillsProven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environmentMetOcean Telematics is one of Nova Scotia’s and Atlantic Canada’s Small & Medium Top Employers.
