Job Description

Position: Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer – Mechanical Building System Design

Location: Saint John, Moncton, or Fredericton, NB and Sydney or Halifax, NS

Department: Buildings & Industrial Engineering

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare drawings, specifications, cost estimates and reports for mechanical design projects.
- Design HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection, controls systems, and specialized piping systems (natural gas, fuel oil).
- Perform mechanical calculations for ductwork, piping, and equipment sizing.
- Develop equipment schedules and coordinate with project teams to ensure accurate design.
- Conduct energy modeling for LEED, Green Globes, and Green Buildings Initiatives.
- Complete facility condition assessments, feasibility studies, and design briefs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and respond to internal/external project inquiries.

Qualifications

- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed with APEGNB/Engineers NS or eligible for registration.




- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience as Engineer of record in building and industrial design.
- Robust knowledge of Canadian Building Code, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
- Proficiency in Revit/BIM; AutoCAD experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with spec writing, HAP, and energy modeling tools.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of AI tools is an asset.
