Become an essential part of the planning team as a Plan Checker for the City of Burnaby. This full time role focuses on reviewing construction plans to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
You will perform technical and clerical duties related to building plans and permit applications for single and two-family dwellings. Responsibilities include examining plans, discussing non-conformities with stakeholders, and preparing necessary permits when requirements are met. This position requires strong communication skills and knowledge of municipal bylaws and provincial regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Examine building plans for compliance with BC Building Code
• Discuss non-conformities with architects and contractors
• Prepare and issue building permits as applicable




• Maintain records and answer regulatory inquiries
• Participate in special departmental projects as assigned
Requirements:
• Diploma in Building Technology from an Institute of Technology
• Experience in building construction or municipal regulation
• Knowledge of code compliance and standard building practices
• Valid Driver’s License for British Columbia
• Level 1 qualification as a Building Official
