LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH delivers a broad range of acute, post‑acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Acute services include emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical care and palliative care. Post‑acute specialty services (PASS) include restorative care and rehabilitation. Mental health care, cancer and supportive care, dialysis and other ambulatory care clinics are offered on an outpatient basis through partnerships with regional centres and nearby specialists. NHH offers a full range of diagnostic services, including MRI, CT and mammography. The hospital serves the catchment area of west Northumberland County, a mixed urban and rural population of approximately 67,000 residents.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Working closely with the Quality Patient Safety and Risk (QPSR) team and reporting to the Manager, Quality, Patient Safety & Risk, the Quality Improvement Specialist (QIS) will provide support in consultation, coaching and mentorship in the application of quality improvement best practices to meet strategic goals.



The QIS will also contribute to improving processes for care and service delivery and support sustainable change for better patient outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Operationalise quality improvement initiatives and patient safety framework across the organization, coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
- Assist in maintaining, reviewing, and analysing data within the Incident Management System to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Monitor resources, progress, and measures for the Quality Improvement Plan and Patient Safety Plan.
- Provide leadership and support to Quality Practice Committees and working groups involved in improving processes, patient safety and outcomes within NHH.
- Assist with ongoing Accreditation readiness and embed accreditation readiness into daily work and operational planning.
- Contribute to internal and external reporting, data analysis and visualisation, policy development, quality toolkit development, and quality improvement education.
- Lead internal safety surveillance and audits related to emergency preparedness.
- Facilitate applicable training programmes and initiatives.
- Meet legislative, corporate and departmental requirements for Occupational Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Risk Management.
- Adhere to health and safety practices and report injuries, illnesses and hazards.
- Act as a delegate regional liaison for NHH when required.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

- Completion of relevant post‑secondary education, ideally in a health‑related field.
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare or a comparable industry.
- Working knowledge of regulatory standards and best practices related to Patient Safety, Quality Improvement and Accreditation.
- Knowledge of current legislation governing healthcare facilities.




- Experience in research, data measurement and analysis pertaining to risk, quality and patient safety.

Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory vulnerable‑sector criminal reference check completed less than one year from the date of hire within the first sixty (60) days of employment. Additionally, applicants must complete the Health Care Worker Health review and provide an up‑to‑date immunisation record within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
