You will play a pivotal role in redefining our Policyholder Tax processes, utilizing your initiative and curiosity to drive meaningful change. This is a hybrid/remote role. Travel is required to our Kingston office 1-2 times per quarter. Day-to-day is fully remote. Responsibilities Tax Reconciliation Mastery: Prepare and meticulously review monthly and annual reconciliations of tax accounts. Policyholder Reporting: Ensure the precise completion of intricate tax reporting for investor accounts, including customer tax slips, RRSP contribution receipts, and TFSA filings, while managing government submissions. Estate Settlement Support: Assist in the annual estate settlement process to provide seamless customer experiences. Drive Automation: Actively pursue automation opportunities in daily workflows, championing innovation and acting as a catalyst for change within the team. Document Processes: Capture current policyholder tax processes and standardize calculation logic into clear templates. System Testing: Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and data validation to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Process Improvement Advocate: Continuously evaluate and enhance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with tax legislation and industry standards, challenging the norm to drive excellence. Project Leadership: Manage and oversee departmental projects, collaborating with various business units on special initiatives as needed. Tax Expertise: Serve as a subject-matter expert for the annual year-end tax process, leading tax-related system changes. Technical Guide: Provide expert support for tax-related inquiries,
ensuring compliance through accurate reporting to regulatory bodies. Compliance Assurance: Offer technical and research assistance to maintain compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations at the federal, provincial, and local levels. Inventory Management: Maintain control inventories and uphold adherence to internal compliance standards. What You Bring to the Table Tax Experience: A minimum of 3 years experience in Canadian tax. Product Knowledge: Familiarity with insurance and wealth products, inclusive of universal life, whole life, term life, and policyholder tax. Technical Proficiency: Must be well-versed in Unitrax and possess strong product knowledge. Legislative Acumen: Solid understanding of Canadian corporate tax laws and experience in conducting tax research. Educational Background: A university degree with coursework in accounting, finance, taxation, audit, management, or business administration. Excel Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel tools, including modeling and Power Query. Initiative and Drive: A go-getter mindset with the ability to operate independently, foresee challenges, and propose proactive solutions. Data Savvy: Experience working with data and implementing system transformations. Effective Prioritization: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently with minimal oversight. Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication capabilities. Key Competencies: Demonstrated initiative, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on process mapping and workflow documentation. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are imperative. Professional Designations: CPA and FLMI designations are assets. The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $87,200 - $136,250. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract andcasual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the pro-rated base salary component. The TTC range includes bonuses, etc. and is not representative of the base salary range. The base salary for this role is $84,000 - $110,000. #J-18808-Ljbffr
