If you are, our Whiteshell location is looking for a Fire Standard Specialist to play a key role in strengthening and maintaining a robust Fire Protection Program.

What will you be doing

- Reviewing governance and supporting documentation to ensure they are accurate and meet current license requirements.
- Conducting gap analysis against industry best practices and current license and law requirements.
- Reviewing course critiques and creating corrective actions implemented for areas of improvement.
- Working cooperatively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to update and maintain Fire Protection Program materials.
- Monitoring practical training scenarios to ensure tactics and techniques are in accordance with the intent of the Training Program.
- Developing, updating and verifying the accuracy of policies and procedures.
- Analyzing relevant training data to interpret the results of performance checks.
- Providing input for the monthly reporting of Fire Protection Programs initiatives completed and forthcoming.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What We Are Looking For

- Education
- University graduation in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing or a combination of education and experience in emergency management, fire operations, or other related technical discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (engineer-in-training or professional engineer) will be considered an asset.
- Certificates/Training in course design, instruction, analysis, and evaluation will be considered an asset.
- Certificates / Training in project management will be considered an asset.
- Certificates / Training in fire protection systems and fire operations will be considered an asset.
- Certificates / Training in disaster response, emergency preparedness, and emergency management will be considered an asset.




- Certificates / Training in incident investigation will be considered an asset.
- NFPA 1041 Level I and Level II will be considered an asset.

- Experience

- Minimum seven (7) years of related experience.
- Experience with fire protection systems, including fire water distribution an asset.
- Fire service training experience, including development, implementation and evaluation of training standards an asset.
- Technical report writing and review experience will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the application of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) will be considered an asset.

- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
- Ability to take action and display initiative as problems and opportunities arise, which require attention, while maintaining integrity and a courteous and respectful manner.
- Robust problem-solving and analytical skills, and capacity for thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Must be tactful, honest, and work diplomatically.

- Security Clearance Eligibility Required

- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions

- Working schedule: We have a compressed work week: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This position is part of the WPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the WPEG Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation,
