Overview Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.This competition is restricted to internal applicants of the University of Alberta. This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $80,772 to $111,086. This position has an initial appointment of 1 year.Responsibilities The MVF3C Strategic and Engagement Manager's broad accountabilities are essential to the success and growth of the MVF3C initiative, including:Stakeholder Engagement And PartnershipsDevelop and curate resources that support Provincial and National Post Secondary Institutions (PSI) and academic leaders in creating practical, inclusive, and engaging learning environments to facilitate the academic success of military, veteran students and their familiesDevelop structured partnerships with other PSIs and innovation hubs in Alberta and CanadaAct as a primary liaison between the University of Alberta and key partners and stakeholders, including government and military end-users (e.G., Canadian Armed Forces, Veteran Affairs Canada and Royal Canadian Legion)Cultivate strategic co-investment and joint efforts regarding human factors related initiatives and/or programs (e.G., resilience, 3MDR), and startupsRepresent MVF3C at national and international forums to build partnerships, attract investment and expand the networkEnsure compliance with safeguarding and duty-of-care requirements when working with vulnerable populations, including oversight of staff conduct, risk management, and prompt escalation of concernsProject And Financial OversightManage multiple complex aspects of the initiative, including the CMVF3C Core Committee, and monthly MVF3C and CMVF3C Meetings, Symposia and Annual General MeetingContributes to all initiative timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and scope adherencePrepares regular, comprehensive reporting for internal committees (e.G., Core Committee, Partnerships, Sponsors) and external community, government, and industry partners, using tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Teams to support collaborative engagementRisk Management And SecurityIdentify and mitigate risks associated with intellectual property, research security, and compliance with programs like the Contract Security Program and the Controlled Goods ProgramInform the development and implementation of robust research security protocols and training to protect highly secure research, data, and facilitiesSupervision & Talent ManagementServe as a direct supervisor for administrative staff positions as the MVF3C initiative evolvesSupervise and mentor a diverse, cross-functional team, ensuring high engagement, performance, and collaboration, and that professional development aligned with initiative objectivesFoster a collaborative and security-conscious work environment across internal university units and external partner organizationsResponsible for assessing operational needs and contributing to the hiring of new staffResponsible for supervising, mentoring, and managing employee performance within a large, complex,



unionized environmentUses excellent interpersonal skills and applies the "employer-perspective" necessary to effectively manage and supervise diverse team membersApplies and complies with relevant Collective Agreement(s), HR-related policies and procedures (UAPPOL), and HR best practice standardsProactively consults with the Faculty's centralized HR Team to ensure all HR-related transactions comply with required U of A processes and proceduresProactively consults with supervisor, HR Partner, and/or Central HR units regarding all other HR, employee relations, and labor relations issues to ensure compliance with relevant Collective Agreement, policy, and legislative requirements, as well as, ensuring HR best practice standards are appliedResponsible for developing and maintaining positive, professional, collaborative working relationships with both internal / external clients and stakeholders at all organizational levelsStrategic Planning And ExecutionCollaborate with HiMARC, the University of Alberta, and Dean of Students office to identify objectives of and strategic plan for the MVF3C initiativeParticipate in collaborative teams to support and facilitate the integration, alignment, and continuous enhancement of MFV3C objectives and outcomesProvide leadership in evolving and implementing a strategic vision and plan for the MVF3C initiative, acting as a change agent where indicatedFacilitate partnerships that align with a common vision and mission, and reduce fragmentation and duplication of effortCreate and advance a Knowledge Mobilization (KMb), and Communication Strategy and PlanDevelop and implement mission-driven strategic plans that align with Canada's defence and economic sovereignty goals (e.G., with Canadian Armed Forces, Veteran Affairs Canada and Royal Canadian Legion)QualificationsA university degree is required in a relevant field: Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Strategic Communications. Preferred Master's degree in Public Administration, Business AdministrationMinimum of 5-7 years work experience in postsecondary administration, strategic project management, government relations or a related fieldExperience building multi-institutional or government partnershipsSignificant experience leading large-scale, complex initiatives involving diverse partners, ideally in a research-intensive or related environmentCredible background relationship and/or experience with the Canadian Armed Forces and/or Veteran Affairs CanadaPossesses excellent interpersonal skills and uses an employer-perspective necessary to effectively collaborate with professional colleagues and supervise a team of technical, administrative staff, students and volunteersPossesses 1 to 3 years HR-related skills and experience hiring, leading, supervising, mentoring, and managing employee performance within a large, complex,
