The Program

The New Leaf House provides a specialized long term care home in Vancouver for children, 12 years old and under, receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). It offers daily living and life skills development, recreational and cultural activities, using a person-centered, culturally-aware, trauma-informed approach. Staff are trained to recognize trauma effects, avoid re-traumatizing, and help youth cope through healthy relationships and personal growth.

The Position

Under supervision, the residence worker (RW) is responsible for assisting clients to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Respects physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs; enhances quality of life with activities of daily living and life skills development. Provides behavioral support, supervision, individual program plan implementation and monitoring, and participates in operating the program. This Overnight Awake position attends to health, well-being, safety and security of persons served (PS) and the program site at night, providing general, non-specific services as required. Maintains a comfortable and clean living environment. Position requires union membership with CUPE.

In Your Role You Will

- Participate in assessing, setting goals,



and planning (individual program plans, personal service plans) for individuals in program; document, implement and contribute to program evaluation.
- Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance; implement personal service plans.
- Assist clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting, including transfer duties such as gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy management, and suction and bowel management as required.
- Participate in client‑focused activities in accordance with care plans.
- Recognize, analyze and manage potential emergency situations such as client’s aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public; report problems to supervisor.
- Administer medication to clients in accordance with established policy and procedures.
- Assist with case management by identifying potential problems, reporting difficulties; provide input to counselor or professional regarding appropriate program plans; contribute to evaluation and reporting of residents’ progress.
- Provide emotional support and feedback to residents and their families.
- Transport and assist residents to appointments, shopping or leisure activities; operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting clients or on Taproot business.
- Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping and cleaning equipment and food services.
- Maintain reports such as statistics, logbooks and daily activities relating to clients.
- Identify social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that meet clients’ needs; maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals and government officials.




- Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
- Participate in the OHS Committee as required.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as required.
- Prior to confirmation of employment, provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter.

As an Ideal Candidate You Possess

- A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum of two years of recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma‑informed practice.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, clean driver’s abstract, with a reliable, safe vehicle and appropriate insurance.

Other Requirements

- Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period).
- Non‑Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period).
- Positive behavior supports experience.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening prior to confirmed employment with Taproot Community Support Services.
