The Opportunity
As part of Maple Leaf Foods’ Commercial Finance team, the SFA is responsible for overseeing trade spend management for Food Service customers. Success in this role is driven by consistently demonstrating strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills, along with keen attention to detail and alignment with Maple Leaf Foods’ core values. This position reports directly to the Finance Manager, Food Service.
Compensation: $71,000 - $103,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job-related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life
- Track and analyze the business’s trade spending commitments to ensure investments generate acceptable returns for both Maple Leaf and customer.
- Participate in the development of trade programs with new or existing customers, to ensure programs promote correct customer behavior.
- Work with Finance Manager to make recommendations on changes to trade spending programs to the Food Service leadership team.
- Work with Revenue Management team to align trade/rebate programs with current pricing strategy.
- Identify patterns in trade spending that may lead to insights (e.g., rebates being given to multiple customers on a single SKU – assess pricing appropriateness) and communicate back to Food Service leadership team.
- Work with Finance Manager/Director and key stakeholders on Food Service team to set annual trade budgets, standard costs,
and savings targets.
- Use SAP; demonstrate working knowledge on a day-to-day basis.
Skills Required
- Accounting knowledge; month-end accounting process, accounting entries (accruals, reclasses, GL and P&L; reconciliations).
- Reconciliations; vendor management – payment reconciliations and reporting.
- Technical skills; intermediate proficiency in MS Office (including PowerPoint) and advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel with experience in developing dashboards, financial models, and automated reports.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; develop procedures and support departments in enhancing and optimizing operational processes.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills; led departmental projects demonstrating strong management and leadership skills.
- Teamwork skills; collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance departmental KPIs and drive performance improvements.
- Attention to detail; strong organizational skills with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process and procedural improvements and implementing effective solutions.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure with strong time management skills, consistently delivering projects on time in high-pressure environments.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting,
business administration, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in finance, controlling, or commercial finance roles.
