Physicians – Pain & Symptom Management/Palliative Care

BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia. The program includes prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care, and operates six regional cancer centres.

In this part‑time position you will participate in the clinical, educational and research activities of the Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care (PSMPC) team. Your responsibilities will include addressing the palliative care needs of ambulant cancer patients, coordinating care with oncological teams, ensuring continuity of support through effective communication and transfers, providing consultation and education to BC Cancer and community‑based teams, and supporting research and educational initiatives in palliative and supportive care.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide palliative care to ambulant cancer patients and support survivorship care.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care and maintain continuity through transfers to community, home care and palliative care services.
- Offer consultation and education to BC Cancer care teams and community providers.
- Engage in research and education activities related to palliative and supportive care.
- Enhance awareness and deliver public and provider education on palliative care and symptom management for oncology patients.
- Collaborate with part‑time palliative care work with Island Health when FTE availability allows.

Required Qualifications





- Valid license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
- Mandatory membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
- Mandatory Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC).
- For CCFP candidates: Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care (CAC).
- For Royal College candidates: Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Accreditation or equivalent training and experience.
- Commitment to reconciliation and the rights of Indigenous peoples, including knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti‑racism principles.
