Description
Southern Railway of Vancouver Island (SVI) is the operating railroad for Vancouver Island freight and potential passenger services and works under a haulage arrangement with Southern Railway of British Columbia Limited (SRY). SVI provides rail freight services to various customers on Vancouver Island via Transload operation based in (Nanaimo) Wellcox yard offering connections to North American Railroads (Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Burlington North Santa Fe, and Union Pacific) who have the ability to reach across the continent. SVI is the rail operator for the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and is well positioned to operate any future or potential rail operations which may arise, this includes expanding Transload Operations, Freight, Tourism, Passenger or Commuter trains.
Qualifications
Possess minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent;
Be CROR qualified;
Hold a valid and clean BC Driver's License Class 3 minimum;
Experience as a crane operator is preferred;
Possess working knowledge of tamper, regulator, brush cutter and backhoe;
Must possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as required;
Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations;
Have valuable hand-eye coordination;
Have physical ability to perform manual labor functions; and
Have availability to work any shift, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.
All current hires will be required to undergo and pass a criminal record check and pre-employment physical and medical evaluation that includes drug screening.
