Criminal Defence Lawyer – Mike Murphy Law Group July 23, 2026

The Mike Murphy Law Group is an Atlantic Canadian litigation firm with a growing criminal defence practice. We’re hiring a junior to mid-level Criminal Defence Lawyer for our Halifax office to take carriage of a wide-ranging criminal caseload across the province.

This role is well suited to a lawyer in the early stages of their criminal defence career.

What you’ll do: Carry criminal files from intake through resolution or trial

Appear in Provincial and Supreme Court on summary and indictable matters

Conduct bail hearings, Crown negotiations, and disclosure review

Handle files across Nova Scotia, not solely in the Halifax area

What we’re looking for:



0–5 years of post-call experience in criminal defence

Membership in positive standing with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (or eligibility for admission)

Moderate to high tech skills — we are a very tech-forward firm and comfort with recent technology is essential

Able to drive, with access to a vehicle for travel within the province

What we offer: Base salary of $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience A competitive, file-based bonus program on top of base salary
