An exciting permanent part-time (0.80 FTE) opportunity is now available for a Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Worker. This position works with the MHSU youth outreach program and it is based out of The Foundry in Williams Lake, B.C.

The ideal candidate brings strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills, along with the ability to build trusting relationships with individuals, families, and community partners. The MHSU Worker thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary environment and demonstrates sound judgment, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism when working with clients experiencing complex mental health concerns, substance dependence, concurrent disorders, trauma, and acute crises. The successful candidate is highly organized, adaptable, and committed to client‑centered, recovery‑oriented care, with experience in case management, care planning, community collaboration, psychoeducation, and advocacy. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to continuous learning and ethical practice are essential in supporting responsive and meaningful outreach services for youth, adults, and elderly clients in the community.

What will you work on?

The Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the multi‑disciplinary team, whose purpose is to ensure that adults with serious mental disorders and/or substance use have access to responsive, sensitive, and relevant assessment and treatment services. The program serves the adult and elderly population that experiences mental health disorders or substance use and impairment in personal, family, financial, occupational and/or social life. This includes individuals with acute psychosis, bizarre behaviour, depression, anxiety, complicated grief, suicidal ideation, substance use, substance dependence, and concurrent disorders. The primary duties include intake assessment, crisis intervention, referral, case management, psychogeriatric support, collaborative community planning, psycho‑education with clients and their families, and liaison with appropriate professionals. Duties include urgent response intervention to individuals in acute crisis, consultation with other care providers to identify educational needs for the community and subsequent strategies to address these needs, and to coordinate services for adults and elderly with mental health and/or substance use problems.

Scheduling Information

Shifts of work are Monday to Thursday; shift times are 08:30 to 16:30 hours.
