- Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
- Drive long distances to deliver goods to customers
- Follow instructions; locate and read location and road maps
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Load and unload cargo
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
- Pick up goods and materials, verify loads for accuracy, and deliver them as instructed
- Document and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts
- Report road incidents to the dispatcher
- Responsible for basic vehicle maintenance; comply with all protected work practices, policies, and processes at all times
- Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
- Maintain a positive attitude with customers
- Complete and verify paperwork for accuracy
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Proven work experience as a Truck Driver
- Class A CDL or commercial driver license
- Traffic laws/DOT regulations/driving knowledge
- Hands-on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB, etc.)
- Must pass drug and alcohol test
- Pallet jack experience required; forklift experience preferred
- Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly
- Must have clean driving record
- Ability to lift 80 pounds repeatedly throughout the day
- Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
- Listening and verbal communication skills
Compensation and Employment Details
- Salary: $25.00 - $32.50 per hour
- Experience: 1-2 years
