Description: The Candidate will be employed to define a strategic roadmap that takes an existing application ecosystem to a distributed system composed of loosely coupled, independently deployable services that work together to deliver business capabilities.

The candidate will develop an distributed
architecture approach through collaboration with stakeholders that mitigates architectural, technical, and operational risks including an estimate of long-term costs, technology investments, and total cost of ownership (TCO).

Once a system architecture is approved, they will collaborate with the Municipal Government Client of TEKsystems frameworks and standards team to define patterns for service communication, data management, and deployment, which will guide development teams in building services that align with architectural principles.

Key responsibilities include:

Assess the current applications' landscape and identify modernization opportunities.
·
Evaluate and recommend the optimal architecture approach (microservices, modular monolith, hybrid, or incremental modernization).
·
Develop target-state architectures and strategic modernization roadmaps.
·
Lead domain modeling and enterprise application design activities.
·
Ensure alignment of technology solutions with business strategy and operational requirements.
·
Identify and mitigate architectural, technical, and operational risks.
·
Provide architectural leadership and oversight across projects and initiatives.
·
Prevent solution fragmentation and promote reusable, scalable design patterns.
·
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to drive informed architecture decisions.
·
Deliver architecture assessments, recommendations, and executive-level guidance to support strategic planning.

Essential Skills
1.

Ten (10) years' practical experience working in a Solution Architecture role;
2.

Ten (10) years' demonstrated experience interpreting and verifying complex business requirements and relating them to business, information, application and solution architectures;
3.

Ten (10) years' demonstrated experience in system integration and enterprise integration patterns;
4.

Ten (10) years' experience creating architecture models using a variety of personal productivity and architecture tools;
5.

Ten (10) years' experience presenting findings and recommendations to clients and developing plans to implement recommendations/solutions.
6.

Eight (8) years' architecture experience with complex programs and projects requiring excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team workplace with diverse audience.
7.

Eight (8) years' experience designing distributed systems

Eight (8) years' experience in software development
Desired Skills
1.

Experience in data integration, developing data models, data standards,



overall information architecture and application architecture;
2.

Experience with reference models (e.g., Open Group, Architecture patterns, others);
3.

Experience with Enterprise Architecture frameworks and how Solution Architecture and Enterprise Architecture complement each other;
4.

Extensive demonstrated knowledge of architecture domains, enterprise architecture practice, methodologies, and architectural deliverables
5.

Ability to conceptualize solution based on required business capabilities and high level requirements;
6.

Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate solution architecture concepts using strong technical writing and architecture modeling skills;
7.

Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and communication competencies with all levels of business and information technology staff.
8.

Previous work experience in the public sector or large organizations.
9.

Microservices Architect Skills (a) Knowledge of CAP Theorem, eventual consistency and consensus algorithms (b) Expertise in domain-driven design, bounded contexts, and defining appropriate service boundaries (c) Knowledge of synchronous (REST, gRPC) and asynchronous (messaging, event-driven) communication approaches. (d) Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration patterns. (e) Experience with
AWS, Azure, or GCP and their managed services for microservices deployments. (f) Skills in designing robust, versioned APIs and managing inter-service contracts. (g) Understanding of database per service pattern, saga patterns, and managing distributed transactions. (h) Expertise in distributed tracing, logging aggregation, and metrics collection across services. (i) Knowledge of service-to-service authentication, API security, and zero-trust architectures. (j) Expertise in circuit breakers, retries, timeouts, bulkheads, and designing
for failure.

This is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90.00 - $110.00/hr.
