**Job Title: Material Handler**
**Job Description**
This role supports a custom industrial packaging manufacturer that produces large custom crates and corrugated cardboard boxes.

As a Material Handler, you will manage materials from receipt through to staging for production, combining hands-on forklift work with inventory control, shipping and receiving, and documentation.

You will ensure that every component, from lumber to nuts and bolts, is picked accurately and prepared safely for production and outbound shipments.
**Responsibilities**
Operate a propane counterbalance forklift (tow motor) to safely move, stage, and pick materials, including non-standard lumber loads, for the production team.

Load and unload various sized loads from trucks and trailers, ensuring safe handling and proper placement of all materials.

Conduct accurate inventory counts, including tracking nuts, bolts, screws, foam, pallets, and other components to the exact quantities required.

Pick and stage all materials for production orders, ensuring each item and quantity matches the specifications on work orders and shipping documents.

Use computer systems to perform shipping and receiving tasks, including data entry and updating inventory records.

Create and process bills of lading (BOLs) and other shipping documents to support accurate and timely shipments.

Retrieve stored product from outdoor storage areas using the propane counterbalance forklift, ensuring safe operation in all weather conditions.

Assist with maintaining clear access to shipping doors, including shoveling snow from the back shipping door during heavy snowfall to keep loading areas accessible.

Communicate with production, engineering, and sales teams as needed to ensure materials are available and correctly staged for ongoing work.

Follow all safety procedures and company policies while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Support team members and contribute to a collaborative, team-focused work culture within the shop.
**Essential Skills**
At least 2 years of experience operating a propane counterbalance forklift (tow motor), including handling non-standard loads such as lumber.

Valid counterbalance propane forklift license with demonstrated practical experience.

Hands-on material handling experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment.

Proven shipping and receiving experience, including creating and processing bills of lading (BOLs).

Solid computer skills with the ability to perform data entry and use software for shipping, receiving, and inventory tasks.

Inventory control experience, including conducting inventory counts and maintaining accurate stock records.

High attention to detail with the ability to pick exact quantities of multiple small components and materials.

Comfort operating a forklift both indoors and outdoors, including retrieving materials from external storage areas.

Ability to work day shifts from Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Capability to perform physical tasks such as moving materials and assisting with snow shoveling at the back shipping door when required.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial packaging environment.





Familiarity with industrial crates, corrugated packaging, and lumber handling.

Comfort working in a bright, clean manufacturing shop with a growing team.

Strong teamwork mindset and willingness to support colleagues across production, engineering, and sales functions.

**Work Environment**

The shop currently includes around 18 assemblers, with engineering and sales teams also based on-site, creating a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

The role follows a day shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours.

You will operate a propane counterbalance forklift both inside the warehouse and in the outdoor back space to access stored product, and you may occasionally assist with shoveling snow around the back shipping door in winter to keep loading areas accessible.

**Job Type & Location**
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mississauga, ON.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
