Position Title: Supervised Access Visitation (SAV) Worker

Department: Family Programs

Reports To: Team Lead, Family Programs

Hours: On-call/casual, Weekdays, Evenings, Weekends

Compensation: $27.00 per hour

Start-Date: Immediately

Nature of Position:

The SAV Worker will provide supervision for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous families with children in care in a designated visit room or within the community. The SAV Worker will observe and document visits in a neutral and non-judgmental manner. This is an on-call/casual position. Hours per week vary, depending on program needs.

Key Responsibilities

Visit Supervision and Child Safety

· Facilitate safe arrival and departure of children at the designated location.

· Provide a supervised environment where access can occur and ensure that visits only occur in designated areas.

· Ensure that participants abide by the rules set out by their social worker and those of Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society.

· Protect children from harm by advocating on their behalf if the behavior of parents contravenes specific guidelines.

Family Support, Engagement, and Documentation

· Provide neutral and culturally sensitive third-party observation of the nature of the visit.

· Act as role models and be knowledgeable about the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual development of children, as needed.

· Record notes on visits that are accurate, objective and contain factual information on activities, child and parent behavior and interaction, communication skills and other details of visit.

· Assist children and parents in engaging at start of visits and disengaging at end of visits.

· Encourage a positive child/parent relationship by assisting parents in selecting age-appropriate toys/activities.

· Assist with general care of infants/children and model secure interactions with infant/children when necessary (ex:



diaper changes, bottle feeding etc.).

Qualifications

Education & Experience

· Relevant education and/or experience in social services, child welfare, family support, or a related field.

· Experience working with Indigenous families and communities, including infants and children.

· Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and the child/youth-in-care process is considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including objective report writing.

· Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and collaboratively as part of a team.

· Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work within a trauma-informed framework.

· Ability to collaborate effectively with MCFD and community partners.

Requirements

· Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector screening.

· Full valid Class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and satisfactory driver’s abstract.

· Ability to meet insurance and safety requirements for vehicle use, as required by the MCFD contract.

· Ability to comply with FOIPPA and MCFD information management guidelines.

Work Conditions

· Must be available for on-call shifts, including weeknights and weekends, based on program needs.

· Must be able to walk longer distances and physically support or pick up children when required.

· May involve exposure to crisis situations and emotionally charged environments.

· Requires use of a computer, mobile device, and secure record-keeping systems.

· Must follow all KFS and MCFD safety, privacy, and documentation policies.
