The Faculty ofEngineering and Applied Science and the Faculty of Social Science andHumanities invite applications from qualified individuals for an AcademicAssociate [limited term for one year with the possibility of renewal] positionin the fields of Engineering Communications and Impacts of Technology. Thisposition reports to both the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and AppliedScience and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Thisposition is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on September 1,2026, or as soon as it is filled.

The candidate shouldpossess a PhD and extensive teaching experience and/or equivalent professionalcommunity teaching experience,



in a relevant field including but not limited toEngineering Communication, Technical Writing, Communication, English,Organizational Communication, Education, or cognate disciplines. The candidate should also have experiencemanaging teaching assistants and/or peer mentors, developing pedagogicalmaterials for undergraduate and graduate students, and demonstrating strong facilitationand presentation skills for both in-person and online classrooms. Registration as a Skilled Engineer (P.Eng.), oreligibility for registration in Ontario or another Canadian province, isconsidered an asset.

The candidate should beable to provide an established record of excellence in teaching at theuniversity level, as demonstrated through a fulsome teaching dossier ofsyllabi, assignments, and personal reflections. In addition, candidates shouldpossess outstanding English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensurestrong, timely, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute tocollaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and thecommunity at large.

Candidateinterviews will be conducted online and short-listed candidates will be invitedto present their course syllabus for ENGR 1050U Engineering Communications andTechnology Impacts including a major assignment for students in the course. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association UOIT Faculty Associationcollective agreementmay be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
