Position Title: Area Forester
Location: Terrace, British Columbia

Key Responsibilities::

- Preparation and maintenance of Annual Logging Plan
- Preparation and maintenance of Permit Development Plan
- Stumpage Management and Permit Quality Control
- Log Quality Control

Annual Logging Plan:

- Prepare and maintain annual logging plan by area
- Gantt chart to contain:
- • Production timeline
- Production by market
- Assigned contractors
- Projected margin
- Permit status
- Seasonal constraints
- Supervise and administer plans and contracts pertaining to logging, road building, bridge installations and deactivation
- Complete pre-harvest walkthroughs
- Assemble documentation for and complete pre-work meetings
- Complete harvest inspections and monitor log quality
- Ensure all operational post-harvest obligations are completed
- Review contractor safety programs
- Participate in monthly and quarterly production meetings with senior management

Permit Development Plan:

- Prepare and maintain permit development plan
- Plan must meet the needs of the annual logging plan and company STI objectives
- Prepare and ensure compliance with annual permit development budget
- Gant Chart to contain:
- • Permit development steps and timelines
- Assigned contractors
- Projected volumes
- Impacted First Nations and Consultation Status
- Recce of potential harvest areas as identified by the Chief Forester
- Manage and oversee layout consultants to meet development timelines
- Schedule and review riparian, terrain, archaeological, visual, and wildlife assessments




- Collaborate with government entities to ensure timely issuance of cutting and road permits
- Accountable for peer review, completion, and archiving of Site Plans
- Prepare pro-forma harvest projections

Stumpage Management and Permit Quality Control:

- Accurately estimate stumpage
- Optimize cutting permits utilizing Enfor software
- Ensure PHARM data collection and assessments are completed and filed

Log Quality Control:

- Work with Director, Operations to improve knowledge of log sorts and market conditions
- Review and track log sort production to be aware of variances from projections
- Guide logging contractors in optimizing log processing quality to meet market demand

Education::

- Undergraduate degree or technical diploma in Forestry or natural resources field
- Registered Qualified Forester or Forester in Training designation

Experience::

- Two or more years’ experience in Forestry or related natural resource field

Personal Attributes::

- Must be flexible, organized and possess excellent time management skills
- Must be familiar with BC Forestry Legislation, Regulations and Policy & Practices
- Communication skills, via multiple media are critical to this position. Area Foresters must be able to effectively direct multi-disciplinary teams tasked with timber development and forestry operation
