Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller & Locator with strong knowledge of shallow utility construction. The successful candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and able to work effectively with a crew while taking direction from management.

This role requires experience operating various sizes of directional drills, including Vermeer equipment, as well as the ability to troubleshoot drilling complications, read and understand construction prints, and safely load and unload heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently.

· Read and interpret locates, and troubleshoot any unknown utilities in the work ara

· Install underground utilities including power, telecommunications, gas, and water lines.

· Have knowledge with the mud mixing system and mud mixture requirements for a variety of different ground conditions.

· Read and interpret construction prints, utility plans, and project documentation.

· Troubleshoot drilling complications and assist in resolving field issues.

· Load, unload, secure, and transport heavy equipment as required.

· Work safely around heavy construction equipment, active worksites, and underground utilities.

· Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and management.

· Follow company safety policies, site procedures, and project requirements.

Required Qualifications

· Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating various sizes of horizontal directional drills.

· Experience operating Vermeer directional drilling equipment is required.

· Solid understanding of shallow utility construction methods and safe work practices.





· Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and inspections.

· Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from management.

· Experience loading and unloading heavy equipment.

· Valid Class 1 Alberta driver’s licence.

· Clean and current Alberta driver’s abstract.

· Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, fit test, and knowledge test related to the maintenance and operation of directional drills.

Required Certificates

Candidates must be able to provide current copies of the following:

· First Aid Certificate

· CSTS

· Ground Disturbance Level II

· H2S

· Common Safety Orientation

· Clean Alberta Driver’s Abstract

Travel and Work Location

This position may require out-of-town work for candidates residing in the St. Paul or Elk Point area. Living Out Allowance (LOA) will be provided when accommodations are required.

Pay: $34.00-$42.00 per hour
