At Home Base Yellowknife, we are committed to supporting youth and ensuring they have access to safe, nurturing housing. We are looking for, experienced, and motivated individuals to join us in casual or part-time roles as Youth Support Workers across our programs, which include the Emergency Overnight Shelter, Dorms, Semi-Independent Living Program, and Youth Centre.

Our programs help youth develop independence, reconnect with family or other important relationships, and build skills to thrive in the community, all within a safe and supportive housing setting.

Home Base provides a thorough onboarding process, including four foundational training modules, shadow shifts across all program areas, and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities

- Supervision of youth across 8-10hr shifts (days, evenings, overnights/ weekdays & weekends)
- Support youth to meet the goals of their of a service plan with the goal of transitioning to semi or independent living
- Connect youth to resources in the community not limited to education, employment, housing, life skills, addictions, and mental health
- Assist with the shared caseload of 10 youth as needed
- Daily communication and interaction with youth in residence
- As needed Contact with support services (guardian, YHSSA, Justice, School, Employers), and other professionals and support services that may become involved with the youth




- Provide transportation as needed to assist youth to attend school/tutor/work, scheduled appointments, court, community and organizational programming outside the Home Base Dorms
- Engage with youth to participate in cultural, educational, mental health & addictions, personal coaching, recreational and social programming provided by specialized HBYK staff
- Ensure HBYK is a safe space for all, including 2SLGBTQQIPAA+ persons
- Risk, Conflict and Crisis Management

The successful candidate will bring with them

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

- Degree or Diploma, including but not limited to: Youth Work, Social Work, Criminology, Education, Recreation (asset)
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a similar role/setting
- Relevant lived experience will be assessed on a case by case basis

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS

- Punctual and reliable (_required)_
- Understanding of addiction, discrimination, homelessness, mental health problems, trauma, and neurodivergent diagnosis
- Emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation empathy, social skills
- Communication skills: written, verbal, presentation, active listening, non-verbal, feedback, respect, confidence, clarity, honesty, friendly
- Fluent in the use of Google Suite programming
- Experience writing case notes
- Collaborate well with others

Prerequisites

● Fluent in English (comprehension/spoken/written) (required)

- Minimum of 19 years of age (required)
- High School Completion Certificate
- College Diploma or University Degree in the areas of Human Services,Social Work, Education or Recreation (asset)
- Experience working with at risk youth (asset)
- First Aid/CPR (asset) (will be provided if necessary)
- Clear Criminal Record (Vulnerable Sector Check) (required)

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $30.30 per hour
