Job Summary

The Plastic Extrusion Blow Moulding Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining extrusion blow moulding machines manufactured around the year 2000. The technician ensures efficient production, consistent product quality, and safe handling of plastic materials while minimizing downtime and waste.

Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation (BLOW MOLDING EXTRUSION)

- Set up and start extrusion blow molding machines for production.
- Install and change moulds, dies, pins, and tooling as required.
- Adjust machine parameters including temperature, air pressure, extrusion speed, and cycle time.
- Monitor machine performance throughout production.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues to reduce downtime.
- Perform machine start-up, shutdown, and product changeovers.

Process Control

- Maintain consistent wall thickness and product dimensions.
- Inspect products for defects such as flash, short shots, pinholes, burns, warpage, and uneven wall thickness.
- Optimize machine settings to improve efficiency and reduce scrap.
- Record machine settings and production data.

Material Handling

Receive, identify, and safely handle plastic resins (HDPE, LDPE, PP, etc.).

- Load raw materials into hoppers manually or using material handling equipment.
- Blend virgin and regrind materials according to production specifications.
- Monitor resin levels and refill hoppers as required.
- Transport finished products and raw materials using pallet jacks or forklifts (if certified).
- Properly label and store raw materials, regrind, and finished goods.

Preventive Maintenance

- Perform daily cleaning and lubrication of machines.
- Replace worn components such as heaters, thermocouples, filters, hoses, and seals.




- Inspect hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Report equipment issues requiring major repairs.
- Maintain housekeeping around machines and production areas.

Quality Control

- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers, gauges, and thickness gauges.
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Separate and document non-conforming products.

Safety

- Follow all workplace health and safety regulations.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance.
- Safely handle hot equipment and moving machinery.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications

- Experience operating extrusion blow moulding machines (preferably year 2000 or similar legacy equipment).
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of plastic processing and extrusion principles.
- Experience with HDPE, LDPE, PP, and recycled materials.
- Ability to read production schedules and work instructions.
- Forklift certification is an asset.

Physical Requirements

- Lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Work in a warm manufacturing environment.
- Perform repetitive bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
