Position Title
Assistant Residence Maintenance Technician
Position Summary
Red Deer Polytechnic Residence is hiring a Permanent Full-Time Assistant Resident Maintenance Technician.
The Assistant Resident Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting the Resident Maintenance Technician in maintaining the Residences in a proper state of repair.
This involves assisting the Resident Maintenance Technician to complete maintenance work orders on an as demand basis as well as assisting the Resident Maintenance Technician to complete preventative maintenance.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, assisting the Resident Maintenance Technician in:
Assist with General Maintenance Repairs and Tasks
- Respond to Maintenance requests submitted by students or staff in a timely manner.
- Plumbing issues that could include repairs to toilets, pipes, valves, sinks, the sewage lift station, and faucets.
- Carpentry tasks that could include dry walling, replacing or repairing doors, repairing furniture and cabinets, and painting.
- Appliance repair that could include replacing handles and knobs, elements, fan motor repair or troubleshooting problems.
- Issues involving locks and keys that could include lock changes, cutting keys, and repairing locks.
- Electrical repairs that can include replacing light fixtures, replacing plugs and minor wiring projects.
- Work with Pest Control as needed
- Move furniture and appliances as needed
- Dispatch contractors as needed
- Helps as necessary with setup of Residence events and activities.
Support Preventative Maintenance Program
- Assist with building and common area inspections.
- Utilize software programs to schedule preventative maintenance.
- Regularly change furnace filters, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries, furnace fan coil actuators.
- Arrange for duct cleaning, sewer line cleaning and lift station maintenance.
- Pressure wash and paint exterior of buildings
- Steam cleaning carpets and furniture on occasion
- Supports regular unit checks/inspections of unoccupied units for maintenance and safety.
Follow Safety Procedures and Regulations
- Wear personal protective equipment (provided)
- Follow RDP’s Safe Work Procedures
- Maintain Tools, Equipment, and Work Areas in clean, safe conditions
Required Qualifications
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Quick learning of on-the-job skills
- Ability to take instruction well
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability to work well independently and is self-motivated
- Flexible Schedule
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check
- Basic HVAC knowledge
- Basic Hot Water Tank knowledge
Preferred Qualifications
- completion of a 1-year college certificate, one year of University or equivalent
- Experience with household maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry would be an asset
- Software Experience and/or experience with StarRez
