Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical, the Electrician is an integral team member of the Rocky Mountaineer Operations and Mechanical team. The Electrician will be responsible for maintaining and supporting electrical power, comfort and control systems across Rocky Mountaineers facilities and assets.

This position is deemed Safety Critical and pre-employment testing will be required. Final candidates must successfully pass a safety critical medical exam and will undergo medical monitoring as prescribed by Transport Canada. This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property, or the environment.

Compensation

The base salary offered for this role is $47.87 per hour.

During our operating season from mid-April to mid-October you will be working 3 days of 12 hour night shifts (8:30pm to 8:30am).



In the maintenance season you will be working 4 days of 10 hour day shifts (7am to 5pm).

Responsible for the execution of all work orders which may include repairs, inspections, modifications, and other related tasks. All work on RM Rolling Stock and RM facilities must be performed to applicable industry norms, Regulatory Safety standards, and RM Standard Operating Procedures. As Rocky Mountaineer is a cooperative team environment, you may regularly be assigned duties to assist other trades or that are outside of your core trade competency.

Key Areas of Accountability

Assemble, wire, and test electro-mechanical systems in an efficient and timely matter as per manufacturing schedule

Diligence and accuracy in labeling of cables and terminations

Perform I/O and wiring integrity checks prior to power-up

Perform activities such as quality inspections, part assessments, and reporting deficiencies within the manufacturing process will be required

Understand and perform various electrical activities as per electrical drawings and schematics

Demonstrate a high attention to detail approach in performing work, a strong ability to successfully work in teams and effectively work independently

Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work area

Ensuring day-to-day activities are performed in compliance with the Rocky Mountaineer safety program

Contribute and foster an environment which encourages, supports, and recognizes new ideas and initiatives





Engage in continuous improvement initiatives such as implementing new processes, equipment, etc.

When required, short notice travel to service systems in the field

Support other departments as needed and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Knowledge

A post-secondary degree or equivalent diploma in Electrical Trades or an Electronic Technician/ or Instrumentation Technician Certificate

Experience

Hands-on industrial electrical experience is considered a strong asset.

SIEMENS SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC system

Able to understand and extend S7 programs (FBD and SCL) made with SIEMENS TIA (Totally Integrated Automation Portal) (Version 13 and higher.

Knowledge in Ethernet Networks, especially of different protocols like UDP and PROFINET

Knowledge in Embedded Systems with Windows Operating System

Working with decentral I/O system SIEMENS SIMATIC ET200SP

Working with the OPC (Open Platform Communications) standard

Knowledge about the IO-Link standard

Three or more years of demonstrated work experience in instrumentation or industrial fields.

Lean manufacturing experience (issue/opportunity identification, solution development/execution/containment mindset).

Proven experience reading electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.

Skills

Excellent communication and computer skills

Able to prioritize and manage multiple assemblies at a time

Work Environment

May require occasional travel

Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day

Indoor/outdoor working workplace
