REPORTS TO: Director, Communications and Community Engagement
DIRECT REPORTS TO THIS POSITION:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Communications and Community Engagement Manager provides strategic leadership
for REACH Edmonton’s communications, public engagement, stakeholder relations, and
community outreach activities. This position develops and implements integrated
communications and engagement strategies that strengthen public awareness, build
meaningful partnerships, promote REACH’s mission, and supports community safety
initiatives.
Working collaboratively across all organizational units, the Manager contributes to
communications planning and leads community engagement events and initiatives, while
ensuring all activities align with REACH’s Strategic objectives and commitment to equity,
diversity, inclusion and belonging.
The Manager, supports organizational change initiatives, identifies emerging opportunities,
manages communications and community engagement projects, uses data and
evaluation to inform communications and engagement strategies, and represents REACH
with professionalism, credibility and integrity throughout the community.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Strategic Communications & Brand Leadership Assist the Director with implementing integrated communications and community
engagement strategies aligned with REACH’s Strategic Plan.
Assist in developing communication plans supporting organizational initiatives,
programs, funding announcements and strategic priorities.
Ensure consistent organizational messaging and brand standards across all
communication channels.
Oversee website content, newsletters, publications, annual reports, digital
communications, and social media platforms.
Provide strategic communications advice and support to leadership and project
teams.
Support and contribute to crisis and issues communications in collaboration with
senior leadership.
Support the REACH Team with communication needs.
2. Community Engagement & Partnership Development Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations,
Indigenous communities, government, funders, businesses and strategic partners.
Represent REACH on committees, working groups, conferences, and community
events.
Design and facilitate inclusive community engagement activities using trauma
informed and culturally responsive approaches.
Identify emerging community needs, issues,
trends and opportunities that support
community safety and well-being.
Foster collaborative partnerships that strengthen community capacity and increase
awareness of REACH programs and initiatives.
Support cross-sector collaboration that advances organizational priorities.
3. Training, Events & Outreach Lead the planning, coordination, promotion and evaluation of community events,
training events and outreach initiatives and volunteer management.
Coordinate event logistics, stakeholder participation, promotional materials and
communications.
Develop educational resources and awareness materials that support community
safety initiatives.
Evaluate communications and outreach activities using data and stakeholder
feedback to improve future initiatives.
Ensure all communications and engagement activities reflect REACH’s values,
strategic priorities and brand standards.
4. Leadership & Team Development Supervise, coach, mentor and support assigned staff.
Foster a team-oriented, inclusive and psychologically safe work environment.
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and constructive
feedback for direct reports.
Support employee learning, professional development and continuous
improvement.
Encourage innovation, accountability, collaboration and service excellence.
Build positive working relationships across all organizational departments.
5. Strategic Planning, Evaluation & Organizational Support Develop performance measures and evaluate communications and engagement
initiatives.
Prepare reports, briefing notes, presentations, Board materials and communication
updates.
Contribute to organizational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitor trends and implement emerging technologies, AI tools and best practices in
communications, stakeholder engagement and community development.
Perform other duties consistent with the position.
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY The Communications and Community Engagement Manager, along with the Director,
Communications and Community Engagement exercises independent judgment in
developing communications strategies, managing stakeholder relationships,
planning
engagement initiatives, prioritizing work, allocating resources within approved budgets and
recommending improvements to organizational communications. Decisions with
significant financial, strategic or organizational impact are made in consultation with the
Director, Communications and Community Engagement.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Develop and manage the Communications and Community Engagement budget.
Monitor project and event budgets.
Coordinate procurement of communications, marketing and promotional
materials.
Manage vendor relationships related to communications, events, design, printing,
photography and digital services.
Ensure responsible stewardship of departmental resources.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Community
Development, Human Services or related experience. An equivalent combination of
education and experience may be considered.
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in communications,
stakeholder engagement, public relations or community development.
Demonstrated success developing and implementing strategic communications
and public engagement initiatives.
Experience supervising staff and leading cross-functional projects.
Experience building collaborative partnerships across multiple sectors.
Experience in the non-profit sector is considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS Hybrid position
Regular attendance at community meetings, conferences and public events.
Occasional evening and weekend work.
Occasional travel within the Edmonton region.
