The Controller, Financial Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations within a multi-entity insurance brokerage environment. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial records, the timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes, and the effective management of core accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and broker/insurer payables where applicable.

Working closely with the Director, Financial Operations and the FP&A; team, the Controller supports financial reporting, enhances internal controls, and drives continuous process improvements across the accounting function. This role also plays a key part in standardizing financial processes across multiple brokerage entities, supporting system enhancements, and contributing to ERP implementation initiatives. The Controller provides day-to-day leadership within the finance team, mentoring and developing a team of Accountants while ensuring operational efficiency, accountability, and alignment with organizational objectives.

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work in-office or in-branch based on the needs of the role and/or as required by management. Preference will be given to candidates that can work 3 days per week at our office locations in Vancouver or Courtenay as part of their hybrid work arrangement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS & FINANCIAL REPORTING
Manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, and General Ledger in collaboration with the Director, Financial Operations
Oversee journal entries and ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes
Manage account reconciliations and ensure appropriate accruals are maintained
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records and reporting
Monitor and manage cash flow to meet business obligations and optimize investment opportunities
Maintain and monitor capital expenditure activities across the organization
Create and manage lease agreements and amortization schedules for capital assets
Support financial planning and contribute to strategies for sustainable financial growth

AUDIT, COMPLIANCE & CONTROLS
Coordinate internal and external audit processes,



including preparation of required documentation and schedules
Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and business processes to strengthen internal controls
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, corporate policies, and best practices
Assist the Director in maintaining financial governance and regulatory adherence

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT & EFFICIENCY
Identify efficiencies and opportunities for cost reductions across the business
Lead continuous improvement initiatives and contribute recommendations for operational enhancements
Support the optimization and automation of finance processes to improve accuracy and efficiency
Analyze workflows and recommend scalable solutions to support business growth and operational effectiveness

CROSS-ENTITY COLLABORATION & STANDARDIZATION
Work collaboratively with related companies and internal departments, including operations, finance, and leadership teams
Assist in standardizing finance processes across multiple brokerage entities or regions
Support the development and implementation of consistent standard operating procedures
Act as a key finance partner to promote alignment, consistency, and best practices across entities

TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
Manage a team of direct reports, including mentorship, coaching, and day-to-day supervision
Lead goal setting and objective development to align team performance with business priorities
Support recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning activities
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development support

Requirements:
CA/CPA designation or equivalent work experience
3–5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a multi-entity environment
Experience managing inter-company transactions and complex reconciliations
Advanced Excel skills,



including data analysis and financial modeling
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Teams)
Experience with Sage 50 Accounting and ADP Workforce Now
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors
Proven ability to lead process improvements, enhance efficiencies, strengthen internal controls, and identify cost reduction opportunities
Solid analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions and provide financial insights to support decision-making and business strategy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with senior leadership, department leaders, and cross-functional teams
Ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
Sound financial and business acumen, with a focus on long-term financial sustainability and risk management
Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with accounting standards, regulations, and financial technologies
Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting team members is considered an asset
Ability to support special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as required

The salary range for this role is $120,000 -$150,000 per year. Compensation is determined by a combination of factors including a candidate’s experience, job-specific knowledge, and skills. Internal equity to ensure fairness across the organization and region/location is also considered.
