Air Canada is modernizing its application platform using cloud‑native and service‑mesh‑based architectures. The Technical Lead will play a critical leadership role in designing, operating, and evolving our Red Hat OpenShift clusters and the Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh platform. This is an excellent opportunity for a tech lead to join Air Canada (an iconic Canadian symbol) and participate in the development of leading-edge solutions. The ideal candidate we are seeking, is a highly motivated, innovative individual, with excellent analytical skills, who is results-oriented (ready to deliver) and self-driven.
Responsibilities
Maintain, configure and upgrade, and operate workloads deployed on our Red Hat OpenShift clusters
Install, configure, upgrade, and patch OpenShift Service Mesh (OSSM) and its core components (Istio, Envoy, ingress/egress gateways).
Administer authentication and authorization mechanisms within the cluster
Ensure top quality observability of the OpenShift platform
Ensure platform security and compliance, including certificate management, mesh security policies, and vulnerability remediation.
Analyze and resolve platform issues.
Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures for OpenShift and OSSM
Interpret new and existing requirements and build solutions accordingly
Assist application teams with best practices for deploying and operating services within the service mesh
Assess requirements, identify dependencies/risks and take actions to resolve them
Optimize platform performance and its quality
Identify potential issues within the platform and adjust
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand constraints and runtime requirements.
Responsible for continual platform enhancements.
Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the teams and their processes by bringing new ideas, solutions, and delivering productive feedback.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science,
computer engineering or equivalent.
5+ years in platform engineering, software engineering with demonstrated technical leadership.
Experience in software development for enterprise services and applications is big plus
Strong hands‑on experience operating Red Hat OpenShift clusters in production environments
Deep expertise with Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh (OSSM) and its core components
Solid understanding of Kubernetes networking concepts, including ingress/egress, service discovery, DNS, and network policies
Strong operational knowledge of Linux, containers, and cloud‑native runtime environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, review architectures, and define platform standards
Experience troubleshooting complex, cross‑layer production issues spanning Kubernetes, networking, and service mesh components
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across platform, SRE, security, and application teams.
Robust experience in application development using service oriented, web services and event-driven architectures.
Knowledge of API-related protocols, specifications and data formats.
Knowledge of Agile environment with experience in source control systems like GitHub, Bit‑Bucket, etc.
Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment lifecycle
Knowledge of design and integration patterns.
Ability to work effectively and produce high quality work under pressure and in rapidly changing environments or uncertain conditions.
Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others on a team in person and remotely.
Robust oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Interest in learning new technologies and in understanding the airline industry
Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast‑paced environment.
Assets
Experience with AWS technologies including ROSA
Experience with API-management software
Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, OpenShift certifications).
Software development certifications
