This is a temporary contractor position offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the oversight and day-to-day management of large-scale Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution pension plans. The successful candidate will provide high-quality analytical, reporting, and operational support across a broad range of investment and governance functions, working closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure effective plan management and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Conduct ongoing monitoring of public and private markets investment managers, reviewing quarterly reports, capital account statements, and disclosures to identify key themes, risks, and performance drivers
Evaluate investment manager performance relative to benchmarks, peer groups, and stated investment philosophy; escalate concerns with clear recommendations
Support portfolio construction for private markets, including pacing analysis, commitment planning, vintage diversification, sector and geography concentration, and liquidity forecasting
Support portfolio construction and management for public market investments, including asset allocation, position sizing, factor and style exposure analysis, rebalancing, and liquidity optimization
Develop and maintain dashboards tracking commitments, NAV, unfunded commitments, cash flows, fees, and exposure metrics for private market investments
Provide analytical support for the DC Plan, including governance reporting, vendor coordination, service-level monitoring, and oversight of recordkeeper and investment options
Assist with DC analytics covering participation rates, contribution rates, default usage, and investment option utilization trends
Participate in due diligence for new and existing public and private markets investment managers, including investment and operational due diligence, interviews, reference checks, and track record analysis
Support investment manager lifecycle activities including onboarding, mandate changes, watch-listing, terminations, and transition planning
Assist in drafting investment due diligence memos, committee materials, and summary documents articulating thesis, risks, and deal terms
Support negotiation and review of legal and contractual documentation such as Investment Management Agreements,



Limited Partnership Agreements, side letters, and subscription documents
Produce and enhance recurring portfolio risk reporting including risk decomposition, factor exposures, concentration, and liquidity analysis
Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing; summarize key risk themes and recommend actions for discussion
Support funded status monitoring and liability analytics, including interest rate and inflation sensitivity and contribution and benefit cash flow analysis
Contribute to Asset Liability Management materials including assumptions tracking, results summaries, and governance committee recommendations
Manage ESG data collection, validation, and reporting across investment managers and service providers; support ESG integration processes and draft committee-ready ESG narratives
Coordinate, prepare, collate, and deliver materials for pension, investment, and risk committee meetings under tight deadlines
Track capital calls, distributions, and management and performance fees; initiate required administrative actions and ensure timely processing
Work with the DB Plan custodian on day-to-day operations including reconciliations and settlement follow-ups
Support cash management to ensure liquidity is maintained for plan expenses and benefit payments, including private markets cash flow forecasting
Ensure timely and accurate payment to vendors, investment managers, and other service providers
Ensure the Plans meet all applicable regulatory, reporting, and compliance requirements; support audits, reviews, and ad hoc information requests
Skills
Strong working knowledge of private markets concepts including commitment structures, capital calls and distributions, J-curve dynamics, PME, DPI/RVPI/TVPI, and fees and carry
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, committee-ready narratives and presentations




Programming skills and experience with private market analytics tools such as iLevel, Bloomberg, and NEXEN
Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret investment performance, risk metrics, and portfolio data
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, presentations, and committee materials and engaging effectively with internal and external partners
High degree of initiative, accountability, and independent judgment to identify issues, develop recommendations, and ensure timely follow-through
Robust organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work within established deadlines
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with investment managers, custodians, consultants, and internal stakeholders
Familiarity with ESG integration frameworks, proxy voting processes, and responsible investment reporting
Experience
3–5 years of relevant experience at a pension fund, investment consultant, private markets platform, fund-of-funds, or asset manager
Demonstrated experience supporting portfolio monitoring, investment due diligence, and risk reporting across public and private asset classes
Experience with pension plan operations, including custodian coordination, cash management, and regulatory compliance, is considered an asset
Experience supporting DC plan governance, vendor oversight, and recordkeeper management is considered an asset
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline
Progress toward or completion of a CFA, CAIA, or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset
